Takeo Spikes finished a half-hour session in the Buffalo Bills autograph tent on Thursday when, on his way out, he was mobbed by another group of fans.
With calls of, ''Mr. Spikes, please sign this,'' and ''Takeo, over here,'' the muscular linebacker took out his pen again and made his way down the line.
Here was another reminder of how welcome Spikes felt and how excited he was to be with Buffalo after spending the previous five fruitless seasons with the struggling Cincinnati Bengals.
''I think about it every morning when I wake up and every night before I go to bed,'' Spikes said. ''It is a fresh start. It was kind of like me coming off a page, 'To be continued,' for the past five years. So I look forward to it.''
