In at least two ways, the Raiders are thinner at defensive end than they were last year.

They are running short of experienced bodies.

And Kenyon Coleman has lost 18 pounds.

The latter will have a bearing on how the Raiders deal with the former.

Even before training camp opened, the Raiders were hoping that the new, lighter Coleman would step into the breach created when Tony Bryant was forced to the sidelines with a severe neck injury and Regan Upshaw left as a free agent. Now with DeLawrence Grant missing at least the first two exhibition games with a strained knee, Coleman is no longer a hope. He's a necessity. ...
