    Gruden: Dolphins game has meaning, preseason or not

    On opening day, what a team does in the preseason is largely irrelevant to most fans and experts. But just when you think exhibition games in the NFL had little meaning think again, Bucs coach Jon Gruden said.

    With the Bucs in Miami tonight to face the Dolphins, Gruden made it clear that preseason wins, mean preseason attention to details and preseason excitement about playing.

    "I haven't been in many games in this league . . . where guys don't get fired up to play," Gruden said. "When the guys go in the locker room, put their gear on and get taped up, I have not been around any teams that aren't ready to go compete and perform. It's something about the lights when they come on, they have a certain effect on these athletes."
