    Winfield news....

"WNSA/Empire Sports' Howard Simon was at Bills training camp today and spoke with cornerback Antoine Winfield who is entering the final year of his contract with the team. Winfield told Simon that he had fired his agent and hired new representation that will meet with Bills' president and general manager Tom Donahoe next week. Winfield went on to tell Simon that he doesn't want to test the market and that if the numbers were right he would happily sign an extension."

That sounds refreshing that he doesn't want to leave. He and Clements will dominate for many years to come. Now all TD has to do is sign him and then work on big PAT!!!!

His is underrated purely because of his lack of picks. He was not thrown at much and is virtually a lockdown corner. He can’t help if the ball doesn’t go his way.

i think the fact that he fired his agent speaks volumes about how much he'd like to get a deal done.

He said a number of times that he wants to come back.

He's had a few balls thrown his way.

                      Indeed it does!

It's refreshing to see a least a little trend in the league in places where players turn down more money to stay w/ "their teams."

I hope we resign him. As jam says, he's a great tackler and all-around CB. One of the best in the league.
Replace Donahoe with Modrak and fire the entire coaching staff!

                      Then let's go to Disneyworld!

I don't think he's as good as a lot of Bills fans make him out to be. I think he's solid, but definitely not as good as a lot of the CB's next year.

As far as him never being thrown too being an indication of him being a lock down corner ... I think a main reason he was never thrown to was bc Watson was so horrible. We'll see this year how he does.

Even still, there are no more than a handful starting CB's in the NFL who get picks as rarely as Winfield, regardless of how seldom passes are thrown their way or how poor the DL is.

                            I'm pretty big on Winfield!

As HR implies however, I don't think he's a "lockdown" corner by any means. I think his pass coverage skills are only somewhat above average. I see his guy a few steps away from him far too often for him to be considered a "lockdown corner."

But as I've said about a million times before, ...oh wait, ...there aren't that many threads,... well, anyway, he's an oustanding all-around CB and quite possibly among the best two or three in the league if not the best. Again, all-around CB that is.

How many CBs do you, or anyone on this thread, know, who hit the way he does and cover the run the way he does?

That's worth something especially when you have above average coverage skills.

Ergo, I think he's well worth keeping. If he didn't have his run-defending skills, I'd say let him go in a second if salary became an issue!
