The Indianapolis Colts' backfield is thin again after only one preseason game.

A season removed from sustaining one running back injury after another, the Colts are missing three ball carriers after second-year pros Ricky Williams and James Mungro were hurt in Saturday's 20-18 preseason loss to Chicago in Champaign, Ill.

Third-year pro Dominic Rhodes was already a training-room regular with a chronic left shoulder condition and a rehabilitated right knee. He didn't play against the Bears.

Colts head coach Tony Dungy said Sunday's preliminary report has Williams and Mungro sidelined for at least three weeks, which would be the remainder of the preseason. Williams sprained the medial collateral ligament in his right knee. Mungro suffered cartilage damage in his rib cage.

"We'll have a better time frame (today)," Dungy said.

Williams and Mungro were late additions to the roster last year because of injuries at the running back position.

Rhodes has said the Colts plan to play him in the exhibition finale against Cincinnati on Aug. 29, but he is hoping to go at Denver on Aug. 25.
