ALLEN PARK -- The yellow caution flags are flying at the Lions' command center, as expected. There's a section in the NFL coaches' basic training-camp manual that demands asking for a call to reason after every exhibition game -- particularly the first.
Predictably, Coach Steve Mariucci was looking ahead in his review of the Lions' 26-13 victory over Pittsburgh on Saturday. It started the exhibition season, and Mariucci's tenure as coach, on the right foot.
But it was one step.
"There's a lot of work to do," Mariucci said Sunday. "We're building this skyscraper and we're just pouring the footing right now. I'm hoping it's a good foundation and the plan is good and the architect's work is sound.
"We're laying the foundation here and setting our plan. I like our work. There's so much to do."
