The Packers executed a presidential-like pardon with Dan Wilkinson, who was delayed in getting to Green Bay because of traffic gridlock in Washington, D.C.
Now, they're hoping the coveted nose tackle will grant them some leeway in their concerted efforts to sign him.
"We would not sign a guy just because he was stuck on the Beltway," a smiling head coach Mike Sherman said Tuesday.
Wilkinson was caught in congestion on the major thoroughfare in the nation's capital Monday night, which prevented him from reaching the airport in time to board a scheduled flight. He returned to his home in nearby Potomac, Md., and arose at the crack of dawn Tuesday.
"He was on his way at 6 o'clock, made a 6:20 flight, was on the plane and he's here," said vice president of football operations Mark Hatley, breathing a sigh of relief.
