As the heart and soul of the Denver Broncos defense, Al Wilson usually is the one dishing out punishment.
Tuesday morning, he took a hit nearly as big as those he delivers.
"I'm not going to lie and say it didn't catch me off-guard. It shook me up a little bit," Wilson said of his collision with cornerback Willie Middlebrooks as both tried to intercept a wobbly Jake Plummer pass. "But it's all good."
The same might be said about his outlook on life, despite entering the 2003 season without a contract extension from the Broncos.
