Here's my quick review of everything we saw in Week 2 of the 2002 NFL season:
TJ'S TOP 10 W-L TJ SAYS
1. Patriots 2-0 Beaming with confidence after rout of Jets.
2. Dolphins 2-0 Ten touchdowns in two games. Don't lose that number.
3. Broncos 2-0 Kick off season with wins over Rams and 49ers.
4. Saints 2-0 More speed on both sides of ball than 2001 version.
5. Bears 2-0 Dick Jauron's team escapes Georgia Dome with win.
6. Raiders 2-0 Went to the air to topple the Steelers.
7. Chargers 2-0 Didn't let pesky Texans get off to 2-0 start.
8. Carolina 2-0 Simply put, they've doubled their '01 win total.
9. Eagles 1-1 The Birds took the Fun out of the Redskins Gun.
10. Falcons 0-2 Heartbroken Falcons have dropped a pair of squeakers.
Offensive player of the week:
Bills QB Drew Bledsoe. Completed 35-of-49 passes for 463 yards and three scores, including a 48-yard touchdown strike to wide receiver Peerless Price in overtime as Buffalo has played about 10 quarters in two weeks.
Defensive player of the week:
New England. Held the Jets' offense to 200 total yards and seven points and returned two New York turnovers for touchdowns in a convincing 44-7 victory.
Special team players of the week:
Buccaneers kick returner Karl Williams. Tampa Bay has still never returned a kickoff in the regular season for a touchdown, but Williams now has five punt returns for scores for the Bucs.
Number of the week:
17. Including playoffs, the Patriots have now won 11 straight games and held each opponent to 17 or fewer points.
Surprise of the week:
Cowboys over Titans. Cowboys' QB Quincy Carter looked sharp and Dallas' defense dished out its share of punishment in a surprise of Tennessee.
Coaching move of the week:
John Fox. Veteran QB Rodney Peete looks like a kid again and rookie defensive end Julius Peppers is off to a fast start as Carolina is a surprising 2-0.
Rising this week:
New Orleans. A road divisional win at Tampa Bay followed by an impressive victory over the talented Packers.
Falling this week:
St. Louis. The Rams haven't won a game since their NFC championship victory over the Eagles.
Store it away:
Only three teams have ever reached the Super Bowl following a 0-2 start ('93 Cowboys, '96 Patriots and '01 Patriots), and two of those teams won it (Dallas in '93, New England in '01).
