But as hopes start to soar - most of all in Denver after Plummer's sterling preseason debut - the most pragmatic and realistic voice to date has sounded.
Chicago general manager Jerry Angelo cautioned this week, as his Bears prepared to play the Broncos in Saturday night's preseason game in Champaign, Ill., that none of the hopes attached to these recently signed free-agent quarterbacks should be too high.
Otherwise, disappointment will follow.
