Sam Cowart has always preferred to let his play speak for him.

"I'm a real humble, modest guy," the Jets' weak-side linebacker said. "If you stay that way, you're not going to be a big attraction like somebody like Jeremy Shockey, a guy who keeps things going."

Cowart wasn't slamming Shockey, the loquacious tight end who will miss Saturday's annual Jets-Giants preseason game with a broken rib. He was only saying that if Shockey didn't mean to make waves with his recent magazine comments about Bill Parcells and his own romantic fantasies, he probably is in the wrong media market. Green Bay or Buffalo might work a little better....
