    In NFL, fullback is now an endangered species

    One day during training camp for the Philadelphia Eagles, Jon Ritchie took a pitch from quarterback Donovan McNabb and ran around left end.
    It was a three-quarter speed drill, and the defense stopped pursuit. Ritchie, according to the Philadelphia Daily News, kept running until he got in to the end zone.

    "That was a touchdown," Ritchie insisted as he jogged back to the huddle.

    In his last three years in Oakland, the Raiders ran the ball 1,384 times. During that span, Ritchie played in 44 games at fullback and never carried once.
