Yeah Jim Harris, he may have been 1 of 2 black QB's in the league back then. Guy had an arm like Favre, a rifle, he could kill you with his pass. Only problem was, if you were five feet away it was still coming just as fast. He had no touch, 1 speed, bullet.

One of the first but will we ever have another maybe in some type of backup role. There are a few pretty good backups out there who could give the position some athletic ability, something we're lacking. :afro:

James Harris could throw an 80 yard pass flatfooted. He may have the strongest arm I've ever seen. But he had no touch. Everything was a fastball.

If my memory serves me correctly, we had this kid named Maddox for camp maybe 7 or so years ago

During the strike, didn't we have a black quarterback?

I had a guy (a Packer fan no less) tried to tell me that Jack Kemp was black. :laughter:

Of course, this is the same guy who tried to tell me that Patrick Roy is half-black.

Last offseason we made a big push for Jeff Blake.

didn't we end up trying to move Harris to another position before we got rid of him? I swear we did. I just don't remember if it was WR or DB.

That was Marlin Briscoe. How could I forget about him? :hitself: Marlin the magician. He was a QB in the pre OJ era, that ended up moving to WR.

Willie Totten was the black QB during the strike.

Right on both counts EE.
Harris had a cannon-he could throw it 80 yds. The problem was he did so on 20 yard outs. He actually threw one into the the stands behind the end zone once-and it wasn't an intentional overthrow.
Second point, not only was Marlin an oustanding reciever-he made Dennis Shaw's rookie year for him and it was quite successful as rookie QB's go.

:abe: mmmmmmmmmmmm Dennis Shaw mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

He was always one of my favorites. I always wondered what happened to him.

He also was Jerry Rice's QB at Mississippi Valley State.
Didn't he play in the New England game back in 1987?
Man those games were terrible. Even I as an 8 year old boy knew that. They only had like 9800 people for the Colts game, which was a 47-6 blowout loss at home. I remember they beat the Giants and LT 6-3 at Rich Stadium in perhaps the worst NFL game ever played.
