Sportsline.com's Jay Glazer reports the New York Jets acquired QB Randy Fasani from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a conditional late-round pick, but Fasani abruptly retired rather than reporting to the Jets. Therefore, the Jets will not have to forfeit that draft pick.

i would really like to bring this guy in. dont know what is up with the whole retiring thing, but he was a great college qb and has performed well in the preseason.. never really had much of a chance or much of an offense to work with in carolina.

Kansas City Chiefs president Carl Peterson announced the team has placed OG Victor Allotey on injured reserve. Allotey will miss the entire 2003 season.

Conaty was placed on IR??? what happened?

Conaty injured a hammy in the game last week. Placing him on IR is a procedural move to free up a roster spot. He was going to be released, but he was injured. Thus, he was placed on IR until an injury settlement is in place. His injury isn't severe enough to keep him out the whole season.

Conaty will be released from IR as soon as an injury settlement is agreed upon. At that point, he will be free to sign with other teams (he said his injury should only keep him out of action a few weeks). It isn't unlike what Tampa did last year with Marcus Jones, who was released off IR before signing with Buffalo.
