That's a trend that bears watching, according to Dr. Andrew Tucker, the Ravens' team physician. "From my perspective, that's unusual to have that cluster of fractures," he said.

Tucker cautioned that anytime a team changes the surface of its field, there is an adjustment period of risk for the players.

"Anytime there's a new turf, we're concerned about lower extremity injuries," Tucker said. "Anytime the surface changes, there is a learning curve for what are the best shoes [to play in]."

This year, eight teams will play on new surfaces - the Ravens, Falcons, Eagles, Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Bears, and the New York Jets and Giants at the Meadowlands.
