Of the 15 players trimmed from the Raiders' roster Sunday, defensive end Kenyon Coleman was the biggest surprise, on two counts.

First was the fact Coleman started two exhibitions on the left side and had drawn praise from Coach Bill Callahan for reporting to camp a lighter, better player. Second was the manner in which Coleman departed: He was not cut, but rather was traded to the Dallas Cowboys for an undisclosed draft pick.

``Kenyon performed well, but we had three of our young players really show us something this preseason,'' Raiders senior assistant Bruce Allen said, alluding to rookies Tyler Brayton, Sam Williams and Akbar Gbaja-Biamila. ``They earned the right to be on this team.''

Coleman was unavailable for comment Sunday. Calls to his agent, Gary Wichard, were not answered.
