I wonder if it is a multi-year or a one year deal...Nice work TD...If we can sustain a pass rush this defense is going to be tough...I just hope Milloy picks up the defense quickly...

BILLS MAY NEED A LAWYER FOR PATRIOTS OPENER

The Bills home opener against the New England Patriots Sunday at sold out Ralph Wilson Stadium hardly needs any more hype, but here it comes anyway with word the Bills just might be able to sign four-time Pro Bowl strong safety Lawyer Milloy in time for Sunday's game.

The Patriots were forced to release the 29-year old Milloy on Tuesday when Milloy refused to take a pay cut from the $4.5 million he was scheduled to make this season. Milloy was to count $5.85 million against the Pats salary cap, stretched to the limit by the signing of nose tackle Ted Washington.

ESPN.com reports the Bills have already made a contract proposal to Milloy's agent, Carl Poston, who is reportedly fielding offers from other NFL teams as well.

The Bills won't comment on the reports, but suffice to say if GM Tom Donahoe can pull this one off, the Bills already much improved defense would get even better.

Drew Bledsoe, who played with Milloy in New England, has reportedly lobbied hard for the Bills to sign the hard hitting strong safety who is also known as a solid clubhouse leader.

I wouldn't be suprised if it's true. WGR usually have better sources then WNSA and reports news quicker even though most people like wnsa more. I just wish WGR would have a listen live link on their site cuz i can't get their signal from my house.

In Buffalo, he would be reunited with former New England quarterback Drew Bledsoe, who urged Bills officials to sign Milloy, and who spoke with the safety by phone a few times on Tuesday. There is also the specter of being able to play the Patriots twice yearly, an obvious revenge element. Bledsoe, who is being counted on to demonstrate his skills as a recruiter, figures to be Buffalo's big plus. The Bills want more big plays from their safeties and their current starters, Pierson Prioleau and Coy Wire, combined for zero interceptions in 2002.

Several NFL voices erupted with strong reactions yesterday over word that the Patriots released four-time All-Pro safety and three-year captain Lawyer Milloy after a financial dispute, and CBS' Boomer Esiason declared it would be no surprise if he wound up with the Bills, the Pats' season-opening foe Sunday.

You almost have to wonder what Belicek is thinking sometimes. Hes pulled stunts like this before...and not just in New England.

This would really tip the balance of power in the division towards Buffalo. Possibly the entire AFC.

In a related story...

Isnt it nice to see someone else have salary cap woes??? I was just discussing this topic with my Dad on Monday. Why is it that the fish, and cowpukes, and a few other "media darlings" never have to gut their team due to the cap, yet constantly sign players from other teams???

It looks like the good guys are going to win one for a change.

If we sign him, AWESOME!! .... if we dont, it means we didn't overpay.

Its that simple... It's not like we have to sign him or we're doomed... i look at it as a win-win situation.

I mean, 2 days ago, we really liked our team heading into the season.

i dont remember TD ever talking to the media about interest in a player before. It shows that we're interested bigtime! so he'll make the best offer possible... but if a team like the Redskins offer more and Milloy accepts it, they can have him. 1) The Pats secondary is weaker 2) He's not in the AFC/E 3) We didn't overpay.
