If I was you, just to be sure, revise that front page a little until this ia fact.

This is getting tabloidistic right now. Stick to the facts. Milloy just may end up a Bill, but now we are gettign reports that the Skins AND the Pats arn't out of the running.

However, good money is that he is a Bill.

Redskins in Pursuit of Milloy
Bills May Have Edge to Land Star Safety, Released by Patriots

The Washington Redskins were making a strong push yesterday to sign four-time Pro Bowl safety Lawyer Milloy, who was abruptly released by the New England Patriots earlier in the day after refusing to rework his contract. The Buffalo Bills and New Orleans Saints also were among the front-runners to sign him, NFL sources said, and the Redskins and Milloy's other suitors hoped for a resolution by today.

According to sources, the Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings and San Diego Chargers also pursued Milloy, 29, but had fallen behind in the bidding by last night. The Bills, who are scheduled to face the Patriots on Sunday, attempted to complete a quick deal with Milloy around midday, sources said. The Bills received an endorsement from quarterback Drew Bledsoe, who played with Milloy in New England. But the Redskins were offering a multi-year deal that would pay Milloy at least $5 million over the next two seasons, sources said.

Milloy became a free agent when he was released. Redskins officials spent the day studying tapes of Milloy to determine how lucrative a bid they were willing to make, sources said. The Redskins and other teams were somewhat wary because Milloy's agents, Carl and Kevin Poston, have a reputation for being difficult to deal with.

But Milloy has been named to four of the last five AFC Pro Bowl squads -- including the past two -- and Redskins owner Daniel Snyder rarely lets a player who would help his team sign elsewhere without making a concerted effort to acquire him. Officials from the Patriots and several of the clubs interested in Milloy said the Redskins were in the thick of the chase to sign him. The Redskins seemed to regard the Bills as their primary competitor. Carl Poston did not return a telephone message.

The Patriots had been trying to convince Milloy to restructure his contract for months. He was entering the fourth season of a seven-year, $35 million deal and was to have a salary of $4.5 million this season. He was to count $5.856 million against the Patriots' salary cap.

The Redskins open their season Thursday night against the New York Jets at FedEx Field. Their starting safeties are scheduled to be free-agent newcomer Matt Bowen and holdover Ifeanyi Ohalete. The Redskins were looking at the possibility of adding Milloy as a potential replacement for Ohalete.

The club entered the offseason intent upon upgrading at safety and obtained Bowen from the Green Bay Packers via restricted free agency, signing him to a four-year contract worth $6 million and surrendering a sixth-round draft choice as compensation.

The Redskins went into the draft in April planning to add another new starter by selecting Ohio State safety Mike Doss in the second round. But the Redskins changed plans when University of Florida wide receiver Taylor Jacobs surprisingly remained available for the 44th overall selection. Doss went to the Indianapolis Colts later in the second round and the Redskins let Ohalete, David Terrell and Andre Lott vie for the starting job opposite Bowen. Ohalete won the competition and retained the starting job he took from veteran Sam Shade last season.

The Redskins view Milloy, however, as a potential major addition to a defense that ranked fifth in the NFL last season. Milloy started 106 of his 112 games with the Patriots since being selected in the second round of the 1996 draft out of the University of Washington. He started all 16 regular season games in each of the past six seasons. He has 19 career interceptions and has averaged 121 tackles per season, and was elected by his teammates as one of the Patriots' captains.

Can't we hold a drive to collect Tops Tapes, soup labels, rolled coins, pop cans, etc. to help get the Bills over the Redskin's offer?

How about a bake sale?
