Jordan Phillips is the Buffalo Bills’ secret sauce

Secret sauce: “a special quality or feature regarded as the chief factor in the success of something or someone.”

It was March of 2020 when Jordan Phillips decided to join the Arizona Cardinals after his best NFL season totaling 9.5 sacks with the Buffalo Bills. Like many players, if you have an opportunity to maximize your earning potential—you take it. Phillips’s time in Arizona ended after just two seasons, where he battled injuries and effectiveness in the Cardinals’ defense. So, when the team decided to move on this past offseason, Phillips always knew where “home” was.

He's so damn good. Maybe it's only when he's wearing our uniform or something, but the guy is just so damn good. He's amazing and needs to be retained this time. He's one of those players that just looks different. My wife can notice him when the game is on. That's how you know someone is playing out of their mind.

I think the mafia really gets him going too. Was he as amped up every play in Arizona? I didn’t really watch. But he feeds off the energy here. Which spreads to everyone

Too tall, too fast, not the right build. NT role here is 2 gap space eater. Wouldn't maximize his ability.

During the game they also lined him up in multiple positions and sete. He played end, middle, and would at times stand up like a blitzing LB.

Hes just such a weapon in our defense, in our defense hes one of the best in the nfl. May just be a match made in heaven but results are results

Also to the people that said hed disapear in games, thats not true. Even in games where he gets no stats, he's consistently getting in the backfield and making plays break up. In our rotation he and oliver deserve 40 % of the snaps followed by the other 2

Like i said before, if it comes down to it, Oliver needs to watch his self in negotiations. Phillips had a better seasoj before we didnt resign him than Oliver ever did, Lawson too (not better but we didnt resign him), and both came crawling back

Oliver has been a very good DT, but if hes demanding top 5 money, i have no issue rolling with Phillips, Settle, Jones and a high draft pick. With the possibility of edmunds playing better, Davis contract, Singletary, and trying to keep Poyer, Olivers next contract isnt a given in buffalo

Except that Phillips is an UFA at the end of the year and will be 32 by the time 2024 (Oliver has a 5th year option next year) rolls around.

DL are usually pretty good in their early 30s and after Phillips previous stop, he honestly would probably be content with a 3 yr 12-15 mil contract which would save a lot of money

Let Oliver play his out, but i dont think we need to play desperate for him. Get a DT in the draft and see how he develops

Re: Jordan Phillips is the Buffalo Bills’ secret sauce

Phillips had a good game. Glad he’s back on the team. Hope his injury and inconsistency of the past is behind him.

Here is a very interesting take from Joe B. in his All 22 Film expert analysis....

                            2. The secret standout: DT DaQuan Jones

Outside of quarterback Josh Allen and wide receiver Stefon Diggs, the defensive line stole the show. By now, you’ve seen plenty about pass rushers Von Miller, Greg Rousseau, Boogie Basham and A.J. Epenesa, and a big day from defensive tackle Jordan Phillips. But the one player who didn’t receive nearly enough credit for how well he played is starting one-technique defensive tackle, DaQuan Jones. He was forced into a more significant role than likely anticipated once Ed Oliver suffered an injury, but they needed Jones on 69 percent of the defensive snaps. How he responded as a run defender and pass rusher shows why there’s such excitement about him inside the building.

Jones held up at the point of attack extremely well against double teams, to free up lanes to the running game, and pushed his way toward the ball carrier in some one-on-one chances. He also provided a better pass-rushing push than he’s given credit for at his position, which is usually considered a run-defending spot above all else. He helped collapse the pocket and, combined with his edge-rushing teammates, helped impact throws and bring down Stafford. Jones was on the field for five of the Bills’ seven sacks. How steady he was in anchoring the middle of the line is one of the big reasons the Bills had so much overall success.
