And it's not like Pittsburgh took advantage of the middle of the field in the passing game, they were making hay outside the hash marks all day long.

Nothing against Edmunds, because I genuinely believe we need him vs. the Chiefs. But it helps that Milano has elevated his game. He's lights out right now, and I dont think there's a single LB out in the NFL right now at his level.

Tyrel Dodson is making 895k this year and played better that game than Edmunds has all year. Edmunds 5th year should never have been picked up. let someone else overpay him for his reputation over performance abilities.

I feel like we need edmunds for a superbowl run, but i also think we need that money to continue a superbowl run

Id let Edmunds and Oliver walk, draft their replacements and OL in the draft, resign poyer and re up in free agency. Oliver is un needed. Shouldnt be a priority

The fact that we could've had Leonard in this defense is still one of the worst moves of the regime

He's right and he may get that chance here next season.

I believe he can start also.

Hopefully the Bills do too and cut the cord with Edmunds at year's end. Even if he is playing a bit better this season, he'll cost too much. Dodson can fill his shoes and is probably better, based on yesterday's game anyway.

I would like to see a bigger body of work from Dodson, but the money it will take to resign Edmunds can be better spent on other areas.

 Last year, AJ Klein replaced an injured Edmunds and had a very good game against the Jets. The scuttlebutt here was that the Bills did not need Edmunds because Klein was soooooooooo great.

Then the next game was vs Indy, and the Bills had literally their worst defensive performance in two years....and lost by the most points (26....matched by the loss to TN in 2020) since the 2018 loss the Chicago in 2018. Klein was TERRIBLE. Here is what Joe B. said after the game in his All-22 analysis which was SPOT ON.... (https://theathletic.com/2975277/2021/11/24/how-the-colts-used-a-bills-strength-against-them-to-run-wild-all-22-review/?source=dailyemail&campaign=601983)

<ignore>Bills desperately missing </ignore><ignore>Tremaine Edmunds</ignore>

Bills defensive tackles deserve a lot of blame for not holding up in the middle of the defense, but linebacker A.J. Klein was simply dreadful all game. The Colts routinely forced Klein a step too far to the wrong side, and when he tried to battle back against the oncoming offensive lineman to help make a stop, Klein rarely was able to get off the block before it was too late. He was invisible on far too many rushing attempts, and then when he had some tackle attempts, he failed to get a definitive stop. On some plays, he missed the tackle altogether. Klein was the worst-graded player on the field Sunday, and that’s saying something because of how much the Bills struggled. It also showed how important starter Tremaine Edmunds (https://theathletic.com/player/nfl/bills/tremaine-edmunds/) has become for the Bills.

The Bills were able to get by without Edmunds against the Jaguars (https://theathletic.com/team/jaguars/) and Jets (https://theathletic.com/team/jets/)because those running games aren’t nearly as prolific as that of the Colts. Edmunds has greatly improved his ability to deal with physicality this year and in how he has worked off blocks. He has also fired to the rushing lanes with confidence much more often than previously in his career. On top of those improvements, Edmunds is a far superior athlete to Klein and can challenge oncoming offensive linemen and running backs in a way that Klein simply cannot. Against a high-powered rushing attack, the Bills desperately need Edmunds in the lineup for how he confronts the opposing blocking schemes. While it wasn’t the case earlier in Edmunds’ career, it is now.

Dodson had a good game. That goes to the Bills depth.

What was interesting is that some posters (read: some Edmunds haters) opined that Bernard was drafted to replace Edmunds and was the “backup MLB”.

Yet, it was Dodson that replaced Edmunds. And Bernard replaced Milano when he came out after the game was well in hand.

Interesting stats....

Milano - 2 total tackles, one of which was solo.

Bernard in just the 4th Q after replacing Milano - 6 total tackles, 3 of which were solo.

Just sayin'

BTW....the Bills, for the first time since the LA game, all nine defensive lineman available. With the overhauled D-Line, the Bills are showing why they did that, and the result is extremely satisfying.

Here is Joe B.’s postgame observation concerning Dodson (https://theathletic.com/3674839/2022/10/09/bills-steelers-josh-allen-observations/?source=pulsenewsletter&campaign=5256064)....another spot-on, expert analysis....

Dodson rewards the Bills’ faith with a high-flying day

Without linebacker Tremaine Edmunds (https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/tremaine-edmunds-JKo3MELPaAeeJbLo/) practicing during the week, all signs pointed to the starter missing the Steelers game, but that only raised one question. Would the Bills entrust rookie Terrel Bernard (https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/terrel-bernard-Bgkdhz03M4GzlbZk/) with the linebacker snaps next to Matt Milano (https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/matt-milano-ZRj4di17FE6yBxBv/), or would they prefer Tyrel Dodson (https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/tyrel-dodson-ZxgTwYMjUwbrPqXE/) for his years of experience within the scheme? The answer was an open-and-shut case for Dodson, who played 100 percent of the team’s snaps before garbage time took over and Bernard replaced Milano. They couldn’t have asked for much more from Dodson, who was an outstanding run defender, played fast because of his confidence within the defensive scheme and played his part well in coverage to keep the Steelers from piecing together drives. Dodson likely isn’t the future at linebacker for the Bills, but his performance on Sunday was a reward and indication of how strong their development system has been all over the defense. This experience, as compared to his last start back in 2020, is invaluable in case the Bills need to go to Dodson due to injury down the stretch of the season.

I never thought Bernard was drafted to replace Edmunds.

That will be done in the next draft or FA period, unless Dodson can price he's the guy.

Not going to gripe on Edmunds, he's playing a better game with a dline in front of him. Don't think we can afford him after this season though. Dodson was the answer against Pittsburgh, not sure it works out that way against say, the Chiefs.

Don't have any issue that Dodson had a good game, gained some confidence, and feels he could be a starter, maybe he could be. We'll see. Plenty of season left.

I did not say that you specifically did. Others did.

Your declarative statement that "That will be done (replace Edmunds) in the next draft or FA period, unless Dodson can price he's the guy.” is pure ignorant (in respect that you, nor any of us outside Beane’s office, has ANY idea if this is even close to being on their radar screen) speculation.

But, hey, go ahead and have your wet dream. Clean up before you come here though.

That's fair. Agree.

Fortunately we can trust our own eyes and don't have to spend our lives like a dog licking Joe Buscaglia's ass every pitiful day of our lives.

For the record, I wasn't saying Dotson is better, I was just making an observation that you didn't notice Edmunds wasn't out there, because Dotson played so well.

It's a nice problem to have. Maybe they will start playing some more 3 LB sets, but I doubt it.

What an insipid post. Joe B. is a professional sports writer that provides extremely sound, credible expert analysis, week in and week out. Something your posts have no relationship with.

And he has not showed any bias favoring Edmunds (or ANY other player for that matter) in any way, shape or form. Simply objective, well informed, intelligent, superior sports journalism.

All your post shows is that you have no idea what you are talking about, and your posts are filled with bitter, toxic, vitriol diarrhea.

Dodson has good athleticism for the position and has developed his technique during his Buffalo tenure. I'm happy to have both Edmunds and Dodson on the Bills this season, and I'm comfortable with Edmunds starting. If Dodson can be a quality starter, it gives Buffalo options for the roster in 2023, given that they will probably have to continue managing a tight cap situation.
