Helped us

we are up by 3. If we hit the extra point, it’s a 4 point lead

the way the d was playing, does anyone doubt Goff would have converted on fourth down, or at least changed the playcall on third and they would have scored the touchdown.

then it would have taken longer and the clock would be burned with no chance for a comeback

Just a thought
glad it worked the way it did obviously

Why don't we go right ahead and not miss any more extra points.

I’m not saying that should be our strategy. (Missing extra points)
Just saying I think it made the game work out in our favor in this instance

It hurt us. You want to force them to score a TD. I cringed. Always cringe when PAT is missed. It's kind of like you get a free throw but you can take a layup for your point. That is a PAT.

Appreciate your positive perspective just can't see it that way. It's revisionist. At least I posted so you didn't feel like you were being ignored...sorry I didn't agree with you!

Sal Cappaccio agrees with you..."I know it’s not something you want to happen, but I think Tyler Bass’ missed XP actually helped the Bills. Lions played much more conservatively down 3 instead of 4, had no interest in risking/trying to score TD, despite moving ball well, and left :23 after kicking field goal."

Worked out this time.

Sounds like baloney to me. This is the situation where teams turn the ball over all the time -- game over. The "it helped us" mentality about this one is totally revisionist and assumes what would happen if we make the PAT is the Lions score a TD and win the game. Can't buy into that. Tame your thinking...

Had the bills defense not been letting the lions walk up and down the field at will all day long with little resistance, I’d agree with you

but that game, they did a poor job defensively
they gave me little evidence they could stop the lions scoring had they truly tried

We didn't force them to take any unnecessary chances, to be less aggressive .... the thought is spot on.
Situational football.

There’s a reason every team has the go for two or kick the PAT chart. If you asked 100 pro and college coaches if they could think of a situation where it was good to miss an extra point, I think you would probably get 100 no’s.

Let me ask you this: how many times do you see a penalty during a field goal attempt and the penalty gives them a first down and they keep the 3 points?

I'm going with never unless it's the game winning kick and the clock just ran out.

Any other time during the game:

You take the 1st down especially if it's against the Chiefs :D
