I agree with ALL of these. The 70s sucked and then to roll into a couple 2-14 seasons a few years later - the only good thing is that most of my peers were being abused errrrrr RAISED to cheer for the Bills.

I loath the pats, but the hatred doesn't come close to the hate i was indoctrinated into football vs the miami dolphins. Grew up in the 70's and 80's and i got to hear all about the dolphins before i even knew if i liked football. so my hate for the fins is something irrational. As for the pats? they were so pathetic for so long i never really grew to loath them, and i wasn't even living in buffalo anymore when the pats got good. So i never really built up a deep hatred for them like i have of the fins and jets (yes i got to loath the jets too thanks to Gastineau and crew)

When I was about 11 I went to a Fins game and back then you could go anywhere in the stadium before heading to the seats, so we used to always go down to the wall when the players were warming up before going back into the locker room. Shula and a couple of other guys were walking straight across the yard line we were standing at, heading right for us. When they got to the sideline, I pulled out the double bird when he was looking right at us. One of the best game moments for me ever, unapologetically.

Jim Kelly largely healed my Dolphins angst by beating league sweetheart Marino all three times he faced him in the playoffs, and topping him 11-7 wins head to head. It was kind of precious that Marino and the Dolphins had such glorious promise and always found us in their way to enforce their curfew.

I kind of still get irritated when I remember the old days, but I really do have a respect for Don Shula and his crew and their teams, same as I respect Belichick, Brady and their teams, and get irritated when I remember those old days. I think I'm happy to know those are now old days.

I think I was always more aggravated with the Bills for being incapable of fielding teams that could face them at the time.

My only regret, is that we never managed to reliably address prime Brady/Belichick, but I take a comfort that we address them now.

For me now, those are hollow old thoughts, like how I didn't like Italians when I was young because we always fought with them. I sort of remember the general feeling, but it's a memory of a feeling now.

I want the Dolphins, Jets and Pats to rise again, because you can't be the best, until you beat the best. And if we're tuned up in a tough division, the rest of the league will be gravy.

The worst thing that ever happened to Miami was plays being reviewed.

If around in the 70's, they would have possibly lost twice to the Bills. A phantom PI call and a Mercury Morris leap on a 4th down play where the ball came out when he was at the top of his jump. Called down by contact and a first down. Worst call I ever saw. Just stealing the game at the end.

Miami pain is FAR longer and deeper for us old folks. Bob Kuchenburg sayinh the 1980 loss was the worst in his career. Bills won 11 that year. Died never seeing the HOF and it ate at him. That makes me happy.

If it had happened during my lifetime and I actually got to enjoy it you're probably right. Most of the fans who were old enough to remember that 72 team are gone.
