Pressure from front 4 on D.

Give Allen time to throw.

Maybe nice weather for once?

A better MLB and a D-coordinator that will blitz once in a while.

The Bengals are going to go with their kc game plan on defense. Try to get pressure with 4 and make Josh take the underneath stuff. Running the ball efficiently and Josh being patient. Hopefully he doesn't throw any jump balls to Mckenzie in this one.

On d, our line and linebackers have to show out in this one. This is a game where having Hyde would be massive. Hopefully the weather is a non factor. Go Bills.

It’s a prime time game so we should get good Josh.

The Bengals scored 0 points when Lael Collins went down, so our defensive ends will need to have an impact on the game.

We will be thoroughly outcoached per par, and the offensive line will have at least 3 holding penalties. I also expect Damar Hamlin to be a disaster.

We need Josh to be great this game…this ain’t the Bears

Focus has to be on creating pressure to win this game. We should be able to score plenty but I worry about our D v a locked in Burrow.

Exactly! It amazing how often it happens! I’m waiting for one of our d-linemen to turn around and punch them in the throat!

On paper, the matchup is not that bad for the Bills. Bills D always have trouble against Mahomes because he can buy time. Burrow is not that kind of QB. Now Burrows often sticks ball into the right place even when his receivers are in tight coverage. The Bills have always drafted CBs with long arms to make play on getting hands in there at the moment of receivers catching the ball. So it will be a battle White, Elam, Johnson against Chase, Higgens, and Boyd. The Bengals will win most battles, but I'm hoping the Bills can win some too, unlike the Vikings game where everything went Vikings way on those close battles.

The key though, to me, is tackling. Burrows will take the easy check downs underneath - I actually think he's better than both Mahomes and Allen in that regard. So the Bills better limit the RACs.

You always wonder how a defense like the Bengals can beat the Chiefs 3 times, including the AFC championship game. In my eyes, they really test patience of the likes - Mahomes and Allen. Their 3 man rush, 8 men in coverage has worked wonders against Mahomes and I can bet everything I have you are going to see it against the Bills. Allen has to make checkdown decisions quicker. The play of Knox, Singletary, Cook, and Hines are critical in my view, not just running, but also coming from the back field for catches (which is tied to Allen as well). The one thing Allen is different from Mahomes is that Allen is a serious runing threat. Cincy is not going to come off coverage when Allen scrambles, just like they did to Mahomes. But Allen can make a guy miss and get sizeable yards on the ground. Don't fall to the trap of looking for big plays against that no-name defense. Of course when they blitz, make them pay. I was there when the Steelers loss to the Bengals in Heinz field, believe it was only the 2nd game all season the Bengals gave up 30+ points. Harris had a good day running, and Pickett made Bengals pay when they went one-on-one with Pickens.

We need 13 to wake the hell up. We need McK to never run a fly route ever again.
there needs to be more than the doubled Diggs so we can. Have MORE Diggs. Use Beez.

Keep the attack to center of the field IT ALWAYS WORKS.

Then when passing is actually working… let that open up the run. Don’t rest on the silly notion that just because you put up well over 2 fiddy on the Bears you are suddenly a running juggernaut. Victory begins and ends with Josh.

on D… pressure pressure pressure. Tackling fundamentals please. Splash lay Edmunds… how about now?

:10:

We have to spread the wealth and balance the attack as much as possible!

Cook is a screen pass nightmare for any defense if ran correctly.

Get the ball in his hands in open space anyway possible.

They will and be effective. When they get you to 3rd and long, you'll see it - guaranteed. I believe the Bills copied their 3 man rush against Mahomes this year, with Milano as the spy on Mahomes.

The run game is going to have to keep chugging if we are going to make teams stop playing a 6-man shell. The Bears tried and got gashed. If the Bengals come out with 5 in the box, we should keep handing it off until they respect it. The play action should start to take off if we can finally establish a legit run game.

If you have listened to McKenzie's show with Dunne, you should know that play he runs with Davis. He called it curl and go (or something similar). Basically both going up field in parallel then depending on the DB positions, one curls up and one changes it to go route. They don't have pre-set notion who runs the go route. I actually think the Miami game towards the end where McKenzie got the PI call is the same play - Josh just expected McKenzie to turn out wheras Davis continues the go.

Looks to me defenses are getting the hang of the play and McKenzie has not been able to get separation when he's one for the "go". Josh did have a few completions to Davis on the curl from the play a few times. It's a good concept. If the safety goes for the curl, then Josh throws to the "go" guy, and vice versa. But I don't think McKenzie's speed is enough for the go route (He's never estanlished that at all in his career). He's most effective with changing directions using his speed. The guy they need for that play is John Brown, the John Brown of 2 years ago.

We need to have a dominant run game. If Cin plays us like KC, where they rush 3 and drop 8 back, then I dont think Josh is going to have much chance to make a lot of plays with his arm ... and I just hope he doesnt try to force things like he always does and throw up hero ball.

But that's where you have no choice when you are facing 3rd and 10. Again I said Josh needs to be patient and some early down 5, 6 yards, keep it 3rd and short. Ideally you get 1st down 7, 8 yards. Now you can take a shot on 2nd down and still have a manageable 3rd down.

Bengals are 7th in defense against the run, 21st against the pass. Bills need their passing game to work again, and their receivers need to start catching balls when it does. Run game isn't going to cut it. Burrow is going to feast on the Bills bendy open spaces.

If we think we're going to win this game with the Tyrod Taylor passing game and a rushing attack we'll be matching field goals against touchdowns.

Defense needs to get to Burrow and find a way to stall his reads with disguised coverages, and disrupt his timing.

This kind of mistake can't happen in the Bengals game. It just seems defenses are honing in on the Bills 2 receiver combo set, in this case, Diggs and McKenzie, where Diggs sat in the middle drawing double teams and McKenzie went deep. #6 of the Bears knew exactly where the play was and raced all the way back from LOS to make the INT. Good play on #6, but also a difficult throw for a lesser QB. Thw wide open one is the shallow route by Morris (85) who probably nets 7 yards.

Spot on.

I have no idea who is going to win this game. It is a true “pick ‘em”. Two elite QB’s. Two elite WR’s. It’s probably going to be very close.

What I suspect is that Josh Allen will rise to the occasion. He seems to thrive on the big game....as he showed late last year and especially in the KC loss (yeah....the 13 seconds is not on Josh)....he can go toe-to toe with anyone.

They need to score at least one more point than the Bungles. I will leave it to them to come up with the specifics, but honestly I'd do the following:

1. Establish the run. That was a great thing about the Bears game, they ran the ball incredibly well.
2. Win the turnover battle
3. Stop the penalty fest
4. Get after Burrow

The wind is sure a factor. The Bears inexperience in the secondary probably prompted them to attack through the air in the first half. Afterwards, they said heck with it, attack their 31 ranked run defense and it worked.

I also feel something is missing between McKenzie and Allen for long balls for the amount of attempts. Both that play and the Miami game play where McKenzie got PI call world've worked if Allen were leading him more with the throws.

By he way, #6 of Bears is Kyler Gordon, rookie out of washington drafted in the 2nd round this year.

The wind is going to affect longer balls more than bullet passes. We have Hines, McKenzie (sometimes), Cook to take advantage of mismatches. I'm not sure how many balls the wind took, most often the intermediate throws appeared to be there. Dorsey, sure. Allen and the receivers also, though I'll still say Allen's not as physically fine as they are saying.

Anyway, they're still going to need a passing game against the Bengals, who do not have 3 rookie cb's, 2 of them udfa.

My center of field attack SHOULD be the passing attack. Not bombs away dream baby to McKenzie. Load up on Diggs short
Beez , RBs coming out of in the flat cuz that is exactly what we will be facing.

then set up the run.

And before an analytics chart shows up showing middle field passes… dump offs don’t count. Designed crosses and hooks. Ladder patterns into the middle. Let Josh decide which “rung”.

Could be Beasley's 'welcome back' game.

Pressure from front 4 on D.

Give Allen time to throw.

Maybe nice weather for once? Agree. I'm not against an occasional blitz, but Burrows is a smart, accurate QB, who makes quick decisions. He will find the open receiver if the Bills make a habit of bringing extra pressure. The injury Cincinnati has at RT (La'el Collins) could be an opportunity for Greg Rousseau. He needs to make an impact in the game.

The weather is forecast to be mild with a chance of showers at this point. I don't think it will be a washout by any means. I think both offenses will have a chance to get cranked up.

Agree. If there’s any game Beasley can breakout and help us, it’s this one.

Hopefully Dorsey will realize that for a "breakout game", Beasley would have to be targeted more than once.

I don't know. I don't expect you to pick up a guy off street to be a major contributor on a superbowl caliber team, even though the guy has some familiarity with the offense.

I didn't expect him to be a major contributor on week 1 or 2, but I did expect him to get more than one target against the Bears.

Signing Beasley was a depth move above all. It’s not smart to go into the final stretch of the season, and the playoffs with only four healthy WR’s.

Having Jake Kumerow AND Jamison Crowder on IR is not a desirable situation.

The coaches seem to be building more trust for Shakir, as he had two more snaps than McKenzie (25 to 23) in the Chicago game. Some of that is attributed to the increased emphasis on the run game, where Shakir is a little better run blocker. But, according to Joe B (https://theathletic.com/4034027/2022/12/24/bills-bears-win-afc-east/), “of Shakir’s 24 snaps, only 11 were designed running plays.” With two targets (and catches) it seems that the Bills may be trying to get him more involved in the passing game.

The six snaps and one target they gave Beasley was probably to see how much he has lost since last year. They still know what he is capable of, and his strength is finding the opening against zone coverage. The shortcoming is lack speed and potential explosiveness after the catch.

It will be interesting to see of they elevate Beasley by signing him to the active roster. His experience is a huge plus. His age and slowing down is a negative.

The best scenario is for both McKenzie and Shakir perform at a high level so that it’s not necessary to have to depend on Beasley.

I have no faith in McKenzie. Zip nada zilch. Him on sideline fly patterns is nerve wracking. Not a bad Bills fan. Just not a fan of 6 and his tiny catch radius. Dump offs and screens and the occasional cross, fine.

I was hoping for 4 to 5 targets myself but would be happy with 3 to 4.

Hopefully this week!

This is on Dorsey .... you must know how to exploit the skillset JMO.

So far it's been disappointing with McKenzie, Beasley and until recently Cook.

Dorsey has to step up his game period!

They will and be effective. When they get you to 3rd and long, you'll see it - guaranteed. I believe the Bills copied their 3 man rush against Mahomes this year, with Milano as the spy on Mahomes.

JMO but if they rush 3 as a primary defense we will run them into the ground.

Cook will have his biggest game of the season.

Don’t just pressure burrow. Put him on the ground

balanced attack. A good run game and a josh that doesn’t throw into double coverage for no reason

This sounds like a pretty good approach.

Spread the Wealth.

No turnovers.

Why did you bump THIS thread? This was a horrible start to a REGULAR SEASON game that wasn't finished.

Bad mojo.
