Really want to see our defense step up and punch Cincy in the face after all the trash talking the Bengals were doing this week. It's been a while since we've had so much bulletin board material. Maybe getting called out is what finally unleashes Edmunds' inner beastmode.

If the D can hold Cincy to less than 28 points we win this. I trust Josh and Co. to put up 30 in primetime, with 60 degrees and essentially no wind.

It's not 'must win,' but our road to the SB is MUCH easier if we do, in that:

- We'll have home field throughout the playoffs. Note that we have not won a road playoff game in the McDermott era.
- We won't play KC or the Bengals until the AFC championship. If we lose tonight, in a best case scenario we would have to play at Cincy in the Division round, and at KC in the AFC championship
- A 1st round bye gets guys like Josh, Poyer, Milano and Phillips a chance to get closer to full health - all those guys are nursing impactful injuries.

Getting to this point and winning this game is the goal. This is a must win on the path to achievement. Winning tonight's game is another step for McDermott and Beane--a step they have been working towards for several years. For the team that will hit the field it's just another game but for the franchise putting up a W tonight is monumental. The game is bigger than the game and that is where the must win comes in.

Then there is the symptom of the win that equals control. The team puts themselves in a really good spot with a W where an L brings a lot of adversity. **** that. These guys pave their way tonight.

This is a great way to celebrate my 30th anniversary with me sweetheart. Of note is the 30th anniversary of the “comeback game” against the oilers. We were opening wedding presents listening on the radio. One last gift was a certificate to that large wine store on Delaware in Kenmore. We were in the parking lot listening to the unreal last few scores. Still the greatest comeback … in the playoffs.

I've been reading on twitter, that they're doing CPR. And they just announced that on the broadcast

****... everyone in football has heard that one nightmare story about the guy who got into a light hit, didn't know he broke his neck, turned his head, and dropped dead on the spot. I'm praying right now, that we didn't just see that.

Never heard of CPR on the field. 9+ minutes is quite a bit of time. Usually they call a code off after 20 minutes of CPR of so.

You have to be scared for the guy.

I remember Darryl Stingley. I don't recall anything quite like this.

The league waited as long as they could hoping to get good news about Hamlin so they didn’t have to disrupt their playoff plans. That was all they cared about. But the good news hasn’t come yet. Hopefully it will but that was never the league’s real concern.

I was at a game in 1965 Mack Lee Hill of the KC Chiefs was a running back for the Chiefs.

He took a vicious hit ..... he got hit high and low on the play.

Everybody knew it was bad but it was so incredibly shocking when the news broke of what followed two short days later.

This is really an unprecedented event. I don’t think an injury has ever required CPR before in an NFL game. And a game has never been canceled/postponed before once started. If Damar recovers the medical response will deserve huge credit. These are highly trained people that are prepared for anything and appear to have acted heroically. Hoping we get more information soon.

Dr. Gupta disagrees that is what likely happened. Assuming it is heart related and with the prompt medical response, this is a much better scenario for Demar than anything spinal. I’m very hopeful.

The play in on you tube now. The contact was to his chest. I guess he could have possibly hit his head when he went down but it looked normal. Hamlin popped right up. Adjusted his helmet then just went limp and fell to the ground.

Wtf? Higgins did nothing wrong. He just wrestled for extra yards like every ball carrier on every play. Honestly I feel bad for him. It was just a routine play with a bizarre bad outcome. He will carry this on his conscience forever despite doing nothing wrong.

Some people take their emotions out on a player, some on a commissioner.

Higgins will certainly have the play on his mind, but it shouldn't be on his conscience as there was nothing extraordinary about the play except the outcome.

In Hughes' case he had blocked arteries and it turned out he was a heart attack waiting to happen. It didn't even happen on a play he was directly involved in, he was running his route as a decoy and collapsed as he was trotting back to the huddle after the play.

I'm hopeful too. I am worried about him not breathing for 9 minutes. If he was given oxygen would that preserve his brain function? Anyone know?
To keep this as simple as possible, if the on-field medical staff was able to ventilate the patient with a bag-valve mask (Google “AMBU bag”) - then yes, it’s a good thing that would preserve his brain function in regards to oxygenation.

With that being said, it also depends on blood (which carries the oxygen) flow actually reaching the brain. That is the point of the chest compressions and the defibrillator - to maintain and restore blood flow.

I am a physician, but I won’t speculate too much as to the injury Hamlin might have suffered. There’s a lot of docs and other health professionals on Twitter that will say things (possibly to get clicks to their account), but in reality - any cardiovascular or Neuro trauma is possible.

I just saw that Matt Parrino tweeted the same thing. He included that he's still on a ventilator and has a little lung damage, but the reduction in oxygen use is a good sign.
