Im not going to use the word for what im trying to say, but think about this logically. If something drastic happens, the bills will not be able to play next weekend either. Then because we lost the one seed, can the nfl really make the bills play the next week in the playoffs in a situation that almost punishes them for the worst thing thats ever happened in modern professional sports?

The nfl needs to plan something right now. The most illogical but right thing to do if something gets worse, is suspend the season 2 weeks. It gives players time to figure things out and fans time to re evaluate their schedule. It gives the nfl a chance to avoid a pr nightmare while keeping the nfl standings fair

If hamlin wakes up and is fine, then just suspend the game. If it gets worse by thursday, give the players 2 weeks then start up again

This is the most logical and human way to do this, but it would take a lot of negotiations with the superbowl

He is not going to wake up. He is sedated.

And this whole idea begs the question: they resume play and another player suffers a critical injury. What do they do then?

This tragedy is probably going to lead to the Bills not getting the #1 seed. Is it fair? No, but it is what it is. The NFL is not going to postpone the playoffs, or give both Cincinnati and Buffalo a win for the game, or do anything else that will compromise competitive integrity. We're probably looking at a "no contest" or something similar, and KC getting the #1 seed as a result.

This is likely preferable to trying to shoehorn the game in sometime before the playoffs - a game I'm thinking the players don't particularly care about finishing anyway.

How does this not compromise competitive integrity when the Bills and Bengals both beat KC?

"If something drastic happens", they still have to go back to work. Unfortunately, that's life.

I find it peculiar people think this culture they built will curl up and whimper off. I find it more likely they'll collectively want to come out fierce with the purpose to win for him.

There is an easy fix to this, that woody just mentioned

If you give the bills and bengals a win, then it keeps everything in play next week

It sounds weird, and id only do this because of the circumstances and the fact that they both beat the chiefs, then yes

If the bills win next week, they get the number one seed. If the bills and KC lose, cinci vs bills based on opponent win %

That is not an easy fix, as it significantly puts KC and Baltimore at a disadvantage - two teams who weren't even involved in the suspended game. Whatever solution they pick has to be one that inconveniences the fewest amount of teams possible. There's no perfect answer, unfortunately.

Would you rather they have the Bills and Bengals be the only game the Sunday after next? With one or even both teams ultimately becoming the only team/s without a first round bye? Is that any more beneficial?

That would actually be based on performance. It's better. The game is just too important. Play it.

How about this. Its a lot of ****ary but its the best way to be fair while not messing with the schedule

If Baltimore beats Cinci, they win their division, but baltimore has no path to one seed
If Cinci, Kc, and buffalo win, they decide the one seed by bills and cinci opponent win %
If Kc buffalo and cinci win, buffalo gets the one seed

Baltimore still can win division
Cinci and buffalo can still get one seed
KC isnt punished but is held accountable for losing to cinci and buffalo
