Minnesota’s Justin Jefferson (https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/football/nfl/player/58432/justin-jefferson) has staked his claim to being the NFL’s best receiver with his 2022 season, catching 128 passes for 1,809 yards to lead the league in both categories.

But one of Jefferson’s college teammates thinks he has an argument of his own.

That would be Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase, who was asked this week if he thinks he’s the league’s best receiver.

“Hell yeah (https://www.bengals.com/news/ja-marr-chase-hoping-to-make-bengals-perennial-deep-postseason-runners),” Chase said in response, via Geoff Hobson of the team’s website. “I just put up how many stats with four missed games? Who knows what would have happened?

“I’ve been thinking it. I’m not a cocky person. I’m humble. I know what I can do. I don’t need to prove it. Everybody knows what I can do. Never a doubt in my mind.”

Chase missed four games with a hip injury but still caught 87 passes for 1,046 yards with nine touchdowns. It’s worth noting that he averaged 87.2 yards per game while Jefferson averaged 106.4. In fact, Jefferson’s career-low is 87.5 yards per game, which came in his rookie year.

But Chase is playing in the divisional round while Jefferson’s Vikings lost to the Giants last week.

"I'm not cocky. I'm humble. But I'm better than all the guys who put up better numbers than me."

STFU.

He has a better QB than Jefferson does too. He's not the best.

Also, he's bragging about how humble he is. Let that sink in for a second.

I want every player on my team to think they're better or can be better than every player on the other team.

Who wants a player who thinks they can't be the best and settles for being average?

There's a difference between being confident and being cocky. This is cockiness.

Any #1 WR playing well should think that.

Saying it in social media is now the standard. No biggie.

I don't care what it is. I want my players to think they're better than the person they line up against.

Cincy, as a team, is acting like whiney toddlers this week.

Besides the rather stupid chest thumping by Chase (Gabe Davis (114) AND Stefan Diggs (113) had more receiving yards last week than Chase (84)).

Joe Mixon crying that it’s “disrespectful” (https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2023/01/19/joe-mixon-selling-tickets-to-neutral-site-conference-title-game-disrespectful/) selling tickets to the possible neutral site AFC Championship game.

The same Mixon proclaiming that the Bengals are the “top dog” in the AFC (https://www.si.com/nfl/bengals/allbengals-insiders-plus/joe-mixon-doubles-down-on-big-dogs-statement-it-can-be-bulletin-board-material-for-anybody). Maybe he should be a little more humble when he has gained only 39 & 29 yards in the last two games vs Baltimore. And had only one game with over 100 yards rushing all season.

Plus the Bengals are mired as the 29th ranked rushing team this season.....the Bills are ranked #SEVEN. The Bills defense against the run is ranked SIXTH. While Cincy’s rushing defense is a middling #16.

Even the head coach got into the smack talk saying that “they are not the underdog to anybody (https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2023/01/18/zac-taylor-theres-an-edge-to-this-team-where-were-not-an-underdog-to-anybody/)”.

Really!?!?!? Not very smart pounding of their chets after getting outplayed by Baltimore just last week, where a miracle and fluke 98 yard fumble return saved their asses.

Certainly not hearing any of this kind of stupid smack talk from the much more professional Buffalo Bills.

Cincy is sure seems like they are setting themselves up to seeing their bravado backfiring.

What if Bobby Hart thinks he's the best tackle in the league. Do you want him out there protecting Josh?

It's certainly possible that they're setting themselves up to look stupid, but I'd still take this type of talk over the typical boring 'coach speak' any day. This game is for my entertainment purposes, and Ja'Marr and Joe are entertaining me right now and it's not even Sunday.

The closest McDermott ever got to this type of talk was when he said 'let's not give Belichick too much credit' after he got embarrassed during that game in the blizzard. I wouldn't mind hearing McDermott say that we aren't the underdog to anybody.

Well....the coaches don’t give a crap about you being “entertained”....and boring ‘coach speak’ is much more desirable if winning games is more important that going you some short lived joy. :D:

We all love Stef Diggs but it's frightening to think what Josh could do with Justin Jefferson, the guy that was drafted with the Bills pick. He's the closest thing I've seen to Randy Moss in his prime. Chase is a great player but Jefferson is better.

If you think the HC saying his team isn't an underdog to anyone, is talking smack, you don't know anything about talking smack, it's not even throwing some shade. He's aiming to bring a confident road warrior team in here, that doesn't know the possibility of defeat, or underdog.

We'll see how it turns out. If the Bengals do win, they'll forget the Bills in a week and say the same about KC. No fear, is not a bad perspective for a sports team looking for a championship, and the Bills have said the same thing periodically.

He very may be the best WR in the league, but who cares? Chase is likely going to get his on Sunday, we don’t have the CB’s or scheme to stop him.

Although I am a fan of affirmations....Reminds me an awful lot of the 91 bills.

The mighty will fall.

Lot of divas at WR. A LOT.
