    Lamar Jackson

The Ravens are planning to give QB Lamar Jackson the franchise tag if no long-term deal is reached in the coming weeks, but a big offer could tempt Baltimore into trading the former MVP, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo r

The Baltimore Ravens will place the franchise tag on quarterback Lamar Jackson if the sides cannot agree to a long-term deal in the coming weeks -- and there is a possibility other teams could tempt Baltimore to trade the former NFL MVP for a windfall of draft picks, per sources.

Jackson, 26, played out his rookie deal this past season and is unsigned for the 2023 season. In a season-ending press conference, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said there was a "200% chance" that Jackson stays in Baltimore.

His game is wearing down his body. I'm great with the Ravens overpaying him. He should have had a good agent, and the Ravens should be aware he doesn't.

The Ravens are basically screwed. He wants more than he's worth. We know as well as anyone how hard it is to find a QB. If they overpay him, they won't be able to put a team around him and they'll lose. If they don't pay him, they won't be able to find a QB and will lose, and will probably face a fan revolt.

Ravens fans are spoiled. They don't know extended periods of bad football. They may be headed for their first one.

With Jackson they beat the Bengals in the playoff game ..... so there's that.

He's a great athlete. He's just not that great as a passer. When he passes well, they win. When they have a decent lead and can use the whole playbook, they win. When it's a close game or if they get behind, he's forced to pass, the D doesn't have to respect his run, and they lose.

Mahomes, Allen, Murray- those are $40+ million a year guys because they can manufacture wins. Jackson just isn't quite there. They need more money to put pieces around him.

Murray can manufacture wins? News to me. He had one lucky throw against the Bills.

I agree on Murray .... just don't see him having much success at all.

The disrespect the guy gets, for whatever reason it actually is, is astonishing.

This is a dude who can singlehandedly make plays because of his scrambling ability.

On top of the fact he was an unanimous MVP back in 2019.

Look what happened when we played them in the playoffs a couple of years ago. The Bills contained his rushing and he couldn't pass well enough to beat us. When he has a good passing day, he's unstoppable, but he just doesn't have enough of those.

I'd still take him over a lot of other starters in the NFL but he's just not in the elite group with guys like Mahomes and Allen. And he wants to be paid like those guys.

He wants to be paid like Deshaun Watson, and I'd say he's a little better overall than Watson.

Watson a better passer, Lamar a better runner.
