Colts will receive fifth-round pick from Bills

When the Bills acquired running back Nyheim Hines from the Colts in November, they sent a conditional sixth-round pick to Indianapolis that had the potential to rise to a fifth-round pick.

The conditions for that pick to increase were met.

In nine games with Buffalo, Hines was used primarily as a return specialist. He brought back two kick returns for touchdowns in Buffalo’s emotional Week 18 victory over New England and ended up averaging 29.2 yards per kick return and 9.6 yards per punt return for the club.
But Hines was not used much on offense, playing only 66 snaps on the unit. He received six carries and caught five passes for 53 yards with a touchdown.
Hines is under contract for the next two seasons, though he has no guaranteed money left on his deal.

I still don't get the emphasis we put on finding a pass-catching back--from our failed pursuit of JD McKissic, to drafting of James Cook, and then trade for Nyheim Hines--only to barely use them in the passing game.
Wake up, brush your teeth, and get ready for a day of hating the Dolphins. Or the Pats? How to choose?

Agreed....we are all starting to wonder what the hell they are doing. Then peddle a commitment type attitude that perpetuates the belief change is bad so the culture of everyone viewing what they do isn't critical of them. Why the hell is Hines costing us a 5th round pick in this draft? If they want to know why we can't get over the hump they should stop making excuses and take a long hard look at themselves.

The worst part of this is it's the result of a snowball cluster****. They wanted to keep the roster flexible for the OBJ sweepstakes. That wasn't happening and they needed to blow their load so they went for Hines as a reaction. They ****ed the team last year with that **** and now are going about ****ing the team next year with their reactive BS.

Always seem to give a little more than they need to.

Still don't understand why we traded for the guy personally.

Although he did have a big impact in one game, but was that worth a 5th round pick for a guy who mostly was on the bench?

I'm pretty confident they'll re-work his deal and he'll contribute more in the regular offense this coming season.

                        That's how I view it.

Bills still have a pick in the first 6 rounds and always participate far above the norm in Vet FA prior. They'll do it again once they work on some contract redo's, starting with Allen no doubt.

Hines has blazing speed. Can't teach that. He can catch passes, if you use him. Get him in the open field. His return ability is the best.

Trading dead weight disappointing Moss and flipping a Saturday pick for him was still not a bad deal for someone that contributes and won't be on the inactive list most weeks. Keep him and quit mentally nickel and diming at the bottom of the pay scale. I'll let Beane worry about paying him.

Just because Allen and a few others get a massive chunk of the Cap doesn't mean everyone else must make the Vet minimum or we press the Feign Outrage button. Silly.

Don't see the point in reworking his deal either.

                            Just cut him.

You think the reworking of the business deal would signify a greater use in the offense? Maybe they do have to change some high level plans to use him the way they want to and put it all into play by getting him. How can you see that in the future though? Our running game is going to continue to be Josh Allen. Hines might help with some gadget plays but we are going to see Allen running off the tackles to start the season again next year. As a matter of fact ... any time our running backs actually start to show we will go away from them and start chucking the ball downfield because they have gotten their jobs done.

That is my prediction. Hines is a part time returner and they use him in some gadget plays. He takes up a roster spot for a running back and cost a draft pick. Hope he can return 10 for TDS next season.
