Not a fan of the event, IMO the only legit info that comes from this is the medicals and the interviews.

The luster is coming off, it probably won't even be a 'thing' five years from now, maybe replaced by multiple regional combined 'pro days'.

However some do like it so...

University of Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter, one of the top prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft, is the subject of arrest warrants in Athens, Georgia, on reckless driving and racing charges as a result of an ongoing investigation into a fatal car crash on Jan. 15, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department said on Wednesday. Both charges are misdemeanors.

Police say their investigation found that Carter, 21, and Chandler LeCroy, a Georgia recruiting analyst, were each operating vehicles in the manner consistent with racing after leaving downtown Athens at around 2:30 a.m. ET, with evidence demonstrating that their cars were switching lanes, driving in the center turn lane and in opposite lanes of travel, overtaking other motorists, and driving at high rates of speed.

The best part about the combine is it kind of ends the sort-of break that front offices gave themselves after the end of the season. Now the offseason really kicks off.

Jalen Carter back at Scouting Combine - ProFootballTalk

Defensive tackle Jalen Carter returned to Athens, Georgia to be booked on misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and racing on Wednesday night, but it was reportedly a brief stay.
According to multiple reports that PFT has confirmed, Carter has returned to the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis on Thursday. Carter was booked and released after posting a $4,000 bond on Wednesday night.

The combine is NFL infotainment. It is like the Pro Bowl “skills competition”. Something the NFL can put on TV for football starved fans and reap advertising dollars.

Dan Campbell, HC of Detroit Lions, put the combine into perfect perspective....

Campbell said today that while he likes coming to the Combine so that he can meet some of the players in person, he considers the on-field drills to be a meaningless television show.

“I guess there is somewhat of a spectacle,” Campbell said. “To me it’s more, at this point, just to be able to sit with these guys. They get the medical during the week, but for us to be able to do these interviews is to me the biggest part of all this. It’s not even the working out portion. To me, you grade them off the tape, you don’t grade off somebody out here in pajamas, running the 40 with no defender around.”

Campbell said he likes in-person meetings with players, trying to get a feel for their competitiveness and passion for football.

“The meetings are great, the meetings are really pivotal. All the other stuff, whatever,” Campbell said.
