Report- Bucs to release Leonard Fournette - ProFootballTalk (https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2023/02/28/report-bucs-to-release-leonard-fournette/)

Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that the Buccaneers plan to release (https://twitter.com/TomPelissero/status/1630649431501447168) Fournette once the new league year starts on March 15. Fournette has $2 million of his 2023 salary guaranteed, so the team will wait until then in order to have it hit the 2023 cap rather than the current one.

Not Bills related.

True enough for now.

Should we sign him ...... or is he past contributing?

Every player we ever heard of gets a thread if cut.

Awesome. 300 new threads coming.

Fournette confirmed to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times that the Bucs are releasing him.

“I asked after the season to be [released], and they respected my wishes (https://www.tampabay.com/sports/bucs/2023/02/28/bucs-plan-to-release-leonard-fournette-rachaad-white-jason-licht/),” Fournette told Stroud.

“So no bad blood.”

Fournette, 28, said Tom Brady’s retirement weighed heavily in his decision. The Bucs, who are $56 million over the salary cap, are expected to begin a rebuild next season.

Fournette said he will look for a team that has a chance to win it all.

“Winning is everything,” Fournette said. “That’s all. And in my last three years here, that’s all we’ve done. But since my guy [Brady] left — that’s why I came — so my time here was up.”

The Bucs will save $3.5 million on the cap with his release.

Too expensive.

What kind of number do you see him getting.

I'd bet he's not that much anymore.

I don't think he'll be expensive, but he's also been really average. Just under 4 ypc over his three years in Tampa isn't very good considering your age 25-27 seasons should be prime years as a RB. I don't see him improving as he gets older. I would pass.

He seemed pretty sluggish the few times that I got to see him.

NO!

For vet min and some incentives I'd be interested. He can get the tough yards but beyond that he catches 4 balls a game out of the backfield. He's a chain mover.

If we could have the LF from the Jags, I’d be all over it.

That LF would cost too much unfortunately.

Dont want him at this point in his career, but my last memory of him was him running over Edmunds in OT a few years ago.

That’s like almost 36 years old in “other than RB years”. :D:

League average career for all NFL players is 3.3 years (https://www.statista.com/statistics/240102/average-player-career-length-in-the-national-football-league/).

League average career for RB’s is the lowest of any position....only 2.57 years.

That means that the league average career for all other players is 28% longer than for RB’s.

Yet, you still want to draft a running back in round 1 and tout "experts" who think this.

Amusing.

Actually, YES, the smart way to handle RB’s is to draft them, get their best four of five years with a relatively cheap rookie contract, and then move on.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Plus, I am not advocating to draft just any RB in the first round....I am advocating that ONE PARTICULAR blue chip prospect, that has everyone in agreement is the best quality offensive skill player available in 2023 (besides QB’s which are a whole different category) and will be an immediate IMPACT player in the NFL, and in particular, for the Bills offense should be considered if certain conditions are present..

You are misrepresenting my premise when you say that “...you still want to draft a running back in round 1...”

I never said that. What I DID say and what I have put forward several times is...

IF the highly regarded prospects in the positions that may (or may not be, we do not know) targeted by the Bills in this draft at WR, G and S....are GONE by the time #27 comes around, BUT, the blue chip, rare talent RB IS available, specifically Bijan Robinson, to reject selecting him out of hand is dumb.

Yeah...IF several conditions are present, the Biils should CONSIDER drafting Bijan Robinson. To not do so would be dumb.
