#Bills (https://twitter.com/hashtag/Bills?src=hashtag_click) safety Jordan Poyer is expected to sign… back in Buffalo, sources say. He checked out the market, but returned to the #BillsMafia (https://twitter.com/hashtag/BillsMafia?src=hashtag_click).

Welcome back, Po!

Was kinda hoping that would be the case.

Pretty much ends my dreams of a major WR trade though.

We lost every game Poyer didn't start last year. The only one we lost where he did start was Cincy in the playoffs, and he was banged up. Also, from a "this guy loves Buffalo" perspective, he drove in a bus to a game with a collapsed lung cause they wouldn't let him fly.

Just sayin'. If he's anything close to healthy, he's an All-Pro. I'm down for another year. Let's see the numbers though.

I'd bet it's a 2 year deal, it it's true, maybe with a team option of some sort

That's probably the most surprising outcome of this free agency period for me. I thought for sure he was gone even if the market ended up being softer than he anticipated.

We still need some safety depth, but our secondary is looking pretty strong heading into the draft.

Jordan Poyer (https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/football/nfl/player/861/jordan-poyer) had thoughts of warmer climates, but hopefully the veteran safety held onto his long johns.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Poyer is expected to re-sign (https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/1636047848658616320) with the Bills. Poyer adds that there are still a few details to sort out, but none that should get in the way of the deal being finalized.

Of course!!

Easy to understand you are all in or you're not.

I welcome him back if he wants to be here.

**** the warmer weather and the lower taxes.

The most annoying thing was the outplaying of his hand.

His significant other didn't place him in a good light.

She needed the stfu sign most all.

For only two years.....which was reported to be the sticking point before the 2022 season with Mr. & Mrs. Poyer whining about a long term deal with a BIG raise.

It will be very interesting to see how much this contract is for.

Unless it’s an absurd amount, this is a very positive move for the Bills. It allows them to look to the later rounds to draft a S to develop.<iframe scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowtransparency="true" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets/widget_iframe.2b2d73daf636805223fb11d48f3e94f7.html?origin=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.billszone.com" title="Twitter settings iframe" style="display: none;"></iframe><iframe id="rufous-sandbox" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowtransparency="true" allowfullscreen="true" title="Twitter analytics iframe" style="position: absolute; visibility: hidden; display: none; width: 0px; height: 0px; padding: 0px; border: none;"></iframe>

As far as returning I did believe he valued himself too high and might need to come back .... I never believed he'd be welcomed with open arms in a free market and neither did the Buffalo Bills.

Dolphins really taught him a lesson ....... that I knew was coming.

EGOS are so damn high in a professional athlete sometimes it just takes awhile to come back to Earth.

As Bills fans this should be exactly what we want. He's good, but he's a bit long in the tooth and is probably going to start declining soon. We didn't throw long term money at an aging player but we still have whatever he has left in the tank.

It’s always been the Bills strategy to not give in to his vocal demands and keep the door open for after he had a chance flirt with other teams, and have them not flirt back because (like women in their early 20’s) are more attracted to younger guys with more stamina.

Give him the room to realize how good he really has it in Buffalo.

It takes a bit of pressure off of Beane. I still think it would serve the team best to consider moving Benford to safety and learn behind Hyde, and draft Poyer's replacement to learn under him.

This is the best signing they could have had in FA'CY.

1. Do they shame him into coming back by saying something like.."Josh, Steph, Von etc. all restructured so we could pay you more money."?;

2. If so, did he believe it?

3. Did Pegula secretly agree to cover his NYS tax liability?

4. Will it count against the cap?

So...as it stands now, they've lost 1 starter from last season. Am I right? And they get 2 back who weren't there at the end of last season, Von and Hyde.

Don't be surprised if Jack Campbell isn't taken at 27...ok, maybe be a little surprised.

He is. But there are a few others to consider. Overshown...fun to watch...and he's built like a little lighter version of Edmunds. But like Edmunds...idk...does some stupid things. Like others, he's converted DB and is learning the position.

A couple of others to consider outside of round 1.

Dorian Williams is a great athlete who is just learning the position. Smallish, maybe better built for the outside..but he can also cover.

Not sure I want him. He's on the slow side for coverage responsibilities. Kind of the AJ Epenesa of linebackers, not terrible, just meh

Rather see if the Bills can find a way to fit Bobby Wagner under the cap. Kind of a bad year to draft a linebacker.

Slow, idk...he did a 4.64 at the Combine. Its no where near Epenesa slow. Edmunds ran a 4.54. They both had about the same 10 yard split. In the COD skill tests, the 3 cone and the shuttle, he finished first in both. That was over those who ran a faster 40.

To me, he's got functional speed. And better, his recognition skills make up for the slightly slower 40 time.

In coverage...take it for what its worth analytics...but his opposing qb rating when targeted over the past 2 years was 85 and 70.

I had resigned myself to the likelihood he wasn't coming back considering his comments on the weather and taxes, even though I stated he was the priority to get to come back. One or two more runs at it for him and Hyde, what the hell. F_L is right, though, they need to start preparing for the next generation, even if it means taking two in the draft this year, or one and moving Benford.

And yes, I'm OK with Campbell in the first.

To me, Campbell answered a great number of questions about his athleticism.

Remember that Singletary ran a 4.66 at his combine. That speed is fine.

We're not talking about Tremaine Edmunds any more.

But the other other day you said he would get injured in 2023.. and he would get cut..and within 18 months his wife would divorce him?

The injury would be from clubbing in South Beach.

But seriously, I have no doubt he will be injured at some point in the season.

It's age.

After losing one of the best LB’s in the NFL, Edmunds, the Bills had to retain Poyer for the defense to have a chance of being above average.

Additionally, Poyer found out that the market for him was not there like he expected, unlike Edmunds, that got even more than he was asking for, and the deal was one of the first in the NFL when the legal tampering period of FA opened.

It will be interesting to see when Poyer’s contract details come out.

With the uncertainty of Hamlin’s return, and the lack of depth at S, and the lack of interest from the NFL to pay Poyer big bucks, this result was beneficial for both sides.....again, subject to the contract details.

The Bills clearly kept the right players and let the right ones walk. Tremaine Edmunds the most over-rated piece of garbage LB ever to play. Now get rid of Oliver. He who had 6 or 8 good plays all of 2022.

The market has spoken.

Even then, I don't know it is the right move for the Bills. They need to get younger there. Another year of Hyde and Poyer. We know what they can do. Just don't expect any positive surprise from safety position.

Sentimentally, I'm in on the move of resigning him. I really think Poyer did everything he could and beyond to be on the field for us last year.

The question I ask regrading Poyer on the Bills team or not is
1) the difference of the Bills making to the superbowl or not ------- my answer is no.
2) the difference of the Bills winning the regular season ---------- 10%
3) the difference of the Bills winning AFCE ------------------------- 20%
4) the difference of the Bills making the playoff -------------------no.

Yeah, the market HAS spoken.

Money talks and bullcrap walks.

Poyer was thinking that $10M was not enough (before the 2022 season, and even skipped OTA’s in a tantrum) and he wanted OUT (if not paid BIG BUCKS), and hired a new agent known for his aggressiveness. The Bills held firm and did not flinch.

When FA started, the Bills did not flinch. Wait and see what the Bills already knew. The market for Poyer was not even close to what he thought it was.

Edmunds, on the other hand, kept his mouth shut and let his agent to the talking. He knew that he was going to be in EXTREMELY high demand because he’s one of the best LB’s in the NFL and just approaching his prime.

Five excellent years under his belt and still only 25 years old (for the 2023 season).

I suspect that the Bills offered him relatively big bucks, but the smart thing for Edmunds was to hit the market and consider all offers. Did not take long for him to get that HUGE offer.

He reportedly was asking for $17 APY, and the Bears said...”how about $18M”!!!

Everything the Bills have said for years, and all the “insider” information was the same. The Bills loved Edmunds and wanted him back BADLY.

What too many people forget is that in FA its a two way street. A team may want a player, but that player may not want to be on that team.

The unhinged hatred and foolish ****ting on Edmunds from a select group of uninformed and ignorant "fans” was well known and Edmunds, Beane, McDermott, Frazier and other Bills payers have been asked about the insane hatred from reporters many, many times.

The response from ALL of them was always....basically, paraphrasing.....’these fans don’t now what they hell they are talking about, and the criticisms are pretty dumb and do NOT reflect how much we value Edmunds and his excellence and importance to the team’

Tremaine, undoubtably, has heard it all too. And stayed CLASSY through all the crap, unlike the classlessness of the haters.

It’s pretty easy to suspect that Edmunds was thinking...’why should I put up with this stupid ****, and take less money than other team are offering that WILL make me the best paid inside LB in NFL history’???

Yeah...he took the money, and left the haters to play with themselves thinking it’s such a great thing that an excellent LB is gone.

And he’s being welcomed with open arms by the Chicago fans. I perused some the Bears fans forums, and generally they are celebrating the signing of Edmunds with a LOT of comparisons of him to Brian Urlacher....one of the best LB’s in Bears history.

Yeah, the market HAS spoken. Money talks and bullcrap walks. Edmunds has the money and Poyer (if the reports are true) found out that his demands were bullcrap.

The haters certainly helped to chase Edmunds away. They are so proud of themselves, when, in reality, if they really cared about the Bills fielding the best team they can, should bow their heads in shame.

I lowered my $20 Million guess to $15-17 after looking at what he made in the past. He wasn't getting more than the last contract at his age.
