Bills QB Josh Allen admits he'll need 'to adapt and change' his playing style- 'Get down, slide and live to fight another down' (https://www.nfl.com/news/bills-qb-josh-allen-admits-he-ll-need-to-adapt-and-change-his-playing-style-get-)

Father Time inevitably slows down everyone.

The soon-to-be-27-year-old Josh Allen (https://www.nfl.com/players/josh-allen-4/) already realizes this, having admitted that he'll likely have to soften his hard-charging playing style as he enters his sixth NFL season.

"It sounds crazy, but I'm getting older," Allen said Tuesday, via USA Today’s Lorenzo Reyes (https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/bills/2023/04/18/bills-qb-josh-allen-acknowledges-need-change-his-style-play/11688288002/). "I know I can't continue to do this. I know when I'm using my youth, I feel like I can, but over the course of my career I'm going to have to learn to adapt and change."

"I've always had the mindset of, I've been a football player first and a quarterback second," Allen said. "At some point that is going to have to switch. When that point is, I don't know. I guess I'll let my body tell me."

Allen's body of work has screamed aloud year after year that he's one of the most dangerous threats in the NFL -- by air or ground.

However, Allen, who dealt with an elbow injury for much of last season, is clearly realistic that it's only so long before he's going to need to emphasize playing smarter than harder. Perhaps that starts this season.

"There were sometimes last year when I'm in the open field, I don't need an extra two yards," Allen said. "Get down, slide and live to fight another down. Again, it has worked up to this point, but I understand that there's going to be a point in time when it's not going to work so well."

That’s it Josh. Say the right things and then run them over. Or leap over.

Dude should be taking care of his body not waiting until it tells him to slow down.

That’s what makes him Josh Allen.

What I read of his comments is to be more strategic in the kind of plays he put his body on the line. Strategic in what that individual plays means as “…when I'm in the open field, I don't need an extra two yards, get down, slide and live to fight another down.”

Plus being strategic on game situation.

We need Josh to play like Josh from December onward. There's no need for lowering his shoulder in September, or picking up an extra 3 yards in some random 2nd quarter in October.

Most QB injuries are incurred behind the line of scrimmage and while in the pocket and mobile QB’s are no more prone to injury than non-running QB’s (https://www.fantasypoints.com/nfl/articles/season/2021/mobile-quarterbacks-and-injury-rates#/).

So it's important to get out of Dodge in time.
