    Bills defense

A lot of us are frustrated with Bills D over the last 2 years, me included. For a while, we were living on a high from 2017 where everyone knew it was the defense, not really that talented, that carried the team to an unlikely playoff - I admit we had luck, but we did what we did to make the luck counted.

Since the Bills offense is now being compared to the likes of Chiefs, Bengals the other 2 top heavy weight in AFC. Let's compared the defenses. Do we have more talent than those two teams? Are we getting the expected performance from that defense? Maybe defense coaching?

The Bengals defense (4-2-5) starters are
    DL: Hubbard, Reader, Hill, Hendrickson
    LB: Pratt, Wilson
DB: Awuzie, Hill, Scott, Taylor-Britt, Hilton

    The Chiefs defense (4-2-5)
    DL: Karlaftis, Nnadi, Jones, Omenihu
    LB: Gay, Bolton
DB: Watson, Cook, Reid, Sneed, McDuffie

    The Bills defense (4-2-5)
    DL: Rousseau, Jones, Oliver, Miller
    LB: Milano, Bernard
DB: White, Poyer, Hyde, Elam, Johnson

    Re: Bills defense

Yes, a lot of “us” (does not include me) are “frustrated with the Bills D over the last two year” but I believe that is not well founded.

The Bills defense is still one of the best in the NFL and over 85% of the teams wish that they had a defense as good as ours.

Especially last season, as I have been preaching for months with facts, the OFFENSE is what cost us every single loss and the OFFENSE is what was extremely frustrating....not the defense.

Ted Nguyen put the reality in persecutive perfectly in his Athletic article posted today talking about he “2023 NFL Draft’s best scheme fits”, with Kincaid being a perfect elixir to improve the Bills anemic offensive talent...

The Bills don’t have a talented offense. It’s hard for a lot of people to accept this because of their statistical success (second in offensive DVOA last season), but the truth is they have two elite players in Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs, a few nice skill players and a better-than-average offensive line. Last season, Gabe Davis and Isaiah McKenzie finished 37th and 51st, respectively, in yards per route run among 62 qualifying receivers. Dawson Knox finished 15th among 17 qualifying tight ends. Drafting Kincaid might seem like a luxury pick, but it’s more of a necessity. The Bills need to find players who can consistently win and help them move the ball when Diggs gets doubled. Kincaid can do that from the slot.

The Bills DO have a “talented defense” and they perform extremely well together. Injuries last year hampered them to a huge extent, but they STILL ranked as one of the best defenses in the NFL by almost every metric.

There was NO LOSS last season that the defense was on the field with the lead and failed to stop the opposing opposing offense to LOSE the game.

The OPPOSITE was true in every one of the regular season losses....the offense was on the filed, last to have the ball in their hands with an extremely realistic opportunity to win the game. They FAILED every time. Against Minnesota they HANDED THE VIKES THE WIN.

Snatching a DEFEAT from the JAWS of VICTORY!!!!

After the defense stuffed the Vikes TWICE on the goal line.

The pathetic OFFENSE was why the Bills lost in the playoffs....as the facts of history undeniably show....score 10 points and you are going to lose.

In the playoffs, since Since 2000 (including 2022) there have been 46 teams that have scored 10 or less points (excluding Super Bowls). Their record??

    0-46

The last time a team scored 10 or less points in a playoff game and won??

    1997. PITT 7 – NE 6.

The Super Bowl is even MORE stark….in ALL 56 Super Bowls, one ream has scored 10 or less points SIXTEEN times. Their record????...If you are paying attention you guessed it…..

    0-16.

The defense is fine. McDermott will not only be able to call the defense well, it may be even better since he can be as aggressive as he wants without anyone looking over his shoulder.
