Was watching the post game show locally on Ch. 4. Bates is being worked heavily at C, in addition to Guard. Making sure he's ready to kick over if Morse is hurt again. Don't get me wrong. I hope the rookie gets in there sooner than later but Bates has been working at RG with the starters.

Bates is 4.8 Mil the next 3 years. Morse is 11.3 Mil this year and next, then done. If he's hurt again, he could be a cap consideration with Bates taking over at C.

Bates is definitely the heir-apparent at C, likely next year since cutting Morse saves them $8.5M (it has to be done before March 18th to avoid a $1M roster bonus kicking-in) and they need to save all the money they can. But he has been working at OG and C (I believe he stopped working at OT in 2021) since he got here in 2019, so that's nothing new. They had him working at RG because Torrance is a rookie, but he's seizing his opportunity and Bates will likely work mostly at C going forward because Morse is getting long in the tooth and has the concussion history, and there is sufficient depth at OG with McGovern, Torrance and Edwards.
