Listening to McDermott, it doesn’t seem like he’s satisfied with Dodson. Actually he seems downright underwhelmed. He mentioned several reasons, one being able to understand and relay the plays. Klein has been getting more first team reps. Klein has always looked good to me when he spelled tremaine. I think Klein is a steadier, safer play although not a very exciting one. If McDermott values veteran leadership which we know he does, I think Klein gets the first stab at the job.

I always thought Klein looked good in backup duty. We could do better, but we could also do worse.
McD is a supposed defensive guru. No one officially said it, but he clearly ran Frazier out in favor of his own D. Hopefully he’s better at scheming with the talent he has than Frazier was.

Klein is ok versus the run but if he’s the starter we will have problem’s, especially versus the pass.
There were a number of underrated MLBs that signed for modest money. McD built his best Ds around Keuchley, Edmunds failed to live up to that and it was killing us. This will be a problem.

If he is, he is. McBeane had three years to evaluate Edmunds, and three subsequent drafts to replace him. Unless Bernard or Williams can step into the role, he failed to do so.
When it comes to the MLB position this regime has been their own worst enemy. Edmunds should have never been put anywhere but the edge and they insisted on plopping him in the middle, then they finally draft (admittedly not early enough) someone who played middle in college and work him on the outside behind Milano while working the outside guy they draft last year in the center. It's just senseless.YardRat Wall of Fame

Re: Klein might be our day 1 starting mlb
Williams looks like the next man up at MLB, once he learns. Just got here. In passing situations, Milano is quite often the only LB on the field. Siran Neal comes in for an extra Safety in the box/DB role. If Klein or someone else is in there, whatever. I wasn't thrilled with Edmunds at all. Now pretending he's a huge loss is a reach of epic proportions.
My so called "worry" was proper depth on the DL and in the secondary. Secondary looked bad at this point last year. Now it looks deep. DL looked like a complete question with no one signed. Now Jones, Settle, Oliver man the middle. Getting Floyd to fill in for Miller was big.
Rousseau could improve with the anticipated more aggressive D. Bend, Don't Win didn't work. Glad Frazier is gone.
Basic tackling is the top priority. Sometimes, they are there and don't finish the play.Anonymity is an abused privilege, abused most by people who mistake vitriol for wisdom and cynicism for wit

Re: Klein might be our day 1 starting mlb
Does anyone else see what I see with our LB situation? The best guy we have on the roster to take the MLB spot is Matt Milano. He has good instincts, can hit, can avoid blocks to get into gaps, is perhaps the best tackler on this team... Put Williams or Bernard on the weak side and Klein is your occasional 3rd LB.
