How did the Lions get scheduled for this game? Doesn't matter who's not playing. Is Mahomes? This is going to be a blowout.

The Lions are the feel good story of the NFL right now. They finished on a big upswing last year, starting 1-6 and nearly making the playoffs.

It begins with their coach. Everyone is hiring these little guys that looked like they were hired out of an IT dept.

Dan Campbell was a 265 lb TE and looks like he can still play.

When everyone is downgrading the RB position, they used their 1st no. 1 on Gibbs. Their second 1st is a big LB...another NFL dinosaur.

We'll see ow it goes, but they are bucking NFL trends.

And...a fake punt inside their own 20? Campbell has a pair.

Chiefs O still looks scary even without Kelce. The D is struggling without Jones. They lucked into a couple of Detroit mistakes.

And Collinsdick is even more brutal than last year.

It was kinda sad for the LIONS. They did some things well but had a huge turnover that killed them. They failed to execute downfield on a couple of plays they should have. They do still have a chance though!

Honestly, that game the Lions were playing for a chance to win their division. Putting a W up there is big. It is week one. They didn't play well and won. This is not the same old Lions I expect them to be consistently competitive but they need to eliminate some of the mindlessness because it was brutal.

Yeah, I'll be gracious tomorrow.

The Lions got something going on though. I like what they are doing.

Dan Campbell's phone will be ringing throughout the night from the morning talking heads, trying to get him to make an appearance in the morning.

Week 1, but they might be the odds on favorites to win the NFC Central.

Both teams looked sloppy, refs didn’t really call penalties even if they should. Chiefs line has broke every rule of movement & alignment I know of on the books, what explanation will we hear past CC saying what timing on the snap? LOL.

Nice. Every little bit helps. I bailed on the game after the Lion PI-What offensive holding?-"Let's see how far we can let RT Taylor line up in the backfield without calling it" sequence in the third quarter.

"Let's see how far we can let RT Taylor line up in the backfield without calling it" sequence in the third quarter.

Honestly, that helped the Lions a lot. Every single play where he wasnt lined up as a slot receiver was generally a run. When he was 5-10 yards off the LOS, it was a pass. Figured the Lions coaching staff caught on pretty quick.

The thing I am most impressed with in the Lions is they have made very smart decisions based on their players strengths in how they are built. You can't really Blitz Goff he destroys the Blitz ... so what do they do? They beef up their oline to win in the trenches! I love it and it's going to pay off. Teams aren't going to be able to sneak blitzes in while trying to stuff the run. The Lions are going to be winning the LOS on both sides of the ball all season long.

But I have no idea why they didn't run right up in there when they have 4th and 2 on KC side of the field. That was a mistake. They should have shoved it right down their throats and instead they went downfield.

The Lions have a solid roster everywhere....but they are going to be pushing people around in the trenches. They have a brutal schedule and are going to push for double digit wins...

Not sure why (early in this thread) some posters thought the Chiefs were going to blow out Detroit.

If paying attention to how they progressed last season, from losing some very close games to finishing very strong, this win is no surprise.

Some of their early losses were by 3 or 4 points

Philly 38-35
@Minny 28-24
Seattle 48-45
Miami 31-27

They also got blown out by NE (29-0) and Dallas (24-6), but their competitiveness and being on the cusp of becoming winners was pretty evident in their close loss to the Bills.

The last game of the season when they were already eliminated from the playoffs and Green Bay (at HOME no less) needed to win to get in, and Detroit played gritty game and won. There IS something to the adage that a team “needs to learn how to win”.

They embody the personality of their HC. I LOVE Dan Campbell. Detroit is a very good team.

Jared Goff is thriving there and is easily better than at least half of the QB’s in the NFL. He could reasonably be expected to move into top 10 status.

Not to blow my horn (but I will anyway) I called a DET win over KC (http://www.billszone.com/fanzone/showthread.php/263759-2023-Weekly-Picks?p=5040331&viewfull=1#post5040331). The game unfolded like I expected with Mahomes BADLY missing Kelce.

Without Kelce, KC is an only a very good team. Very beatable. Their dearth at WR was exposed last night. They won’t always **** the bed as badly as they did (Toney was particularly ****ty, catching only one of five targets for ONE stinking yard). They were sloppy and have a tough schedule coming up. Next game in Jax is going to be extremely difficult.

KC’s running game was non-existent. 45 of their 90 yard was from Mahomes. Without Kelce, Mahomes had a tough night with only a 77.5 passer rating.

Recently I went to a performance of David Copperfield (he has his own theater in the MGM Grand and has been performing there for 20 years). He is an amazing magician. He needs a LOT of assistants to make his illusions look easy.

Mahomes needs assistance to perform his magic as well. Without Kelce, he looked closer to any of the other middling QB’s in the NFL.

Revel in that sight. It is not seen very often.

In any event, Detroit is going to be a fun team to watch this year. Thankfully, the Bills don’t have to face them, unless it’s in the Super Bowl.

I predicted a Chiefs route of the Lions for 2 reasons:

1.) I live in Lions territory. I follow them almost as closely as I follow the Bills, only because of proximity and all I hear about on the radio is Detroit sports, which leads to my next point.

2.) It's the Lions. They normally lay a big fat egg on these occasions. Maybe this is finally the regime to turn the franchise around, like McBeane has done with the Bills. I would love nothing more to see a Bills vs Lions Superbowl one day.
