2023 NFL Trade Deadline Tracker- Latest news, rumors and updates - NBC Sports (https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/2023-nfl-trade-deadline-tracker-latest-news-rumors-and-updates)

The NFL trade deadline is at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, October 31, and PFT has you covered with news and analysis of every trade, potential trade, rumor of a trade and trade that won’t be happening.

Here’s what’s happening on the NFL trade front:

Amid talk thatDerrick Henry could be traded (https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/derrick-henry-im-a-titan-and-im-happy-to-be-a-titan), he said he’s happy to remain a Titan. The Titans reportedly told Henry they don’t plan to trade him (https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-titans-tell-derrick-henry-they-dont-plan-to-trade-him).

There’s also been trade talk around DeAndre Hopkins (https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/will-the-titans-keep-deandre-hopkins-past-the-trade-deadline).

With Will Levis expected to keep starting (https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-will-levis-is-expected-to-start-thursday-vs-steelers) in Tennessee, Ryan Tannehill’s name could come up in trade talks.

San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan indicated he [doesn’t think the 49ers need (https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/kyle-shanahan-we-have-the-answers-in-our-building) to do any work at the trade deadline.

Kyler Murray get traded to the Vikings (https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/how-about-kyler-murray-to-the-vikings) after Kirk Cousins’ injury?

The Vikings don’t have many good options (https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/if-kirk-cousins-is-done-for-the-year-what-are-the-vikings-options) to find a new starting quarterback in the middle of the season.

The Panthers are unlikely to trade Brian Burns (https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/brian-burnss-contract-expectations-make-a-trade-unlikely), as a result of his contractual demands.

The Vikings won’t move Danielle Hunter unless they’re blown away by a trade offer (https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/vikings-wont-move-danielle-hunter-unless-theyre-blown-away-with-an-offer).

The Falcons offered a third-round pick (https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/falcons-have-offered-a-third-round-pick-for-montez-sweat) for Montez Sweat.

The Commanders reportedly got calls about trading Jonathan Allen (https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-commanders-got-calls-on-jonathan-allen-but-wont-trade-him), but aren’t interested in moving him.

There’s a rumor that Washington could trade Chase Young to Chicago (https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/rumor-makes-the-rounds-of-chase-young-to-the-bears).

Why not go for Jefferson from Minnesota that guys a killer ..... after watching the game tonight I bet Adams will beg to get out ..... I just wouldn't give a 1st and Gabe for him. Gabe and 2nd 2024 and 2025.

Bears give Jaylon Johnson permission to seek a trade

Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson could be dealt before today’s NFL trade deadline.

Johnson has been given permission to seek a trade, according to multiple reports.

The 24-year-old Johnson was a second-round pick in 2020 and is in the final year of his rookie contract. He and the Bears have reportedly been far apart in negotiations on an extension, and if the Bears think he’s going to leave in free agency in March anyway, it makes more sense to move him now, assuming they can get more for him than the potential compensatory pick they could get if another team signs him.

Beanne really needs to jump in on this one. Rumored asking price is 2 2nd day draft picks. Maybe Elam and a 2nd or 3rd gets it done. Rated as highest CB in NFL. I think there is a deal there to be made.

Johnson is likely going to want a HUGE megadollar megayear contract extension when it comes to a trading partner.

If we do pull the trigger on him, expect him to get a ridiculous contract extension to the tune of 18ish million per year and expect Tre White to reach an injury settlement.

He clearly wants to get paid, and is worth a big contract…. BUT I doubt it will be close to whatever a guy like Surtain will get. As good as he is, he’s not playing man to man style D. That said. 18 mil or so seems about right.

Yep. Joe Buscaglia was all over that idea yesterday when he wrote this (https://theathletic.com/5014080/2023/10/30/nfl-trade-deadline-buffalo-bills/)....

Cornerbacks

With Tre’Davious White out for the rest of the season (https://theathletic.com/4922992/2023/10/02/bills-tredavious-white-achilles-injury/), 2022 first-round pick Kaiir Elam falling further down the depth chart and uneven play from fill-in starter Dane Jackson, cornerback has emerged as a potential trade deadline target. Only second-year starter Christian Benford has emerged as a key piece moving forward. On top of the roster logic, The Athletic’s NFL insider Dianna Russini reported over the weekend (https://theathletic.com/5007267/2023/10/28/nfl-week-8-news-trade-deadline/) that the Bills would be scanning the cornerback market, and these names on selling teams make some sense.

Jaylon Johnson (https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/jaylon-johnson-i85xaNU3yrXA5JW3/), Bears
(https://theathletic.com/nfl/team/bears/)
The Bears once again face another lost season and may face a similar situation with an excellent young defender as they did last year with linebacker Roquan Smith (https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/roquan-smith-OkyvmIUSQqk1rUXH/). Jaylon Johnson fits what the Bills seek in an impact cornerback. He’s an effortless fit into their zone scheme, with the athleticism to get everywhere he needs, the long arms to disrupt passing lanes and has shown to be a good tackler this season. And when the Bills want to put extra heat on the opposition and go into man coverage, Johnson has that ability to go one-on-one and win. The Bills don’t have that flexibility as much with Dane Jackson (https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/dane-jackson-ZB4Fl2ADVvPTSjqC/) in the lineup. Johnson’s cap hit is also excellent, adding only $1.59 million to the Bills’ cap. But it would be costly from a compensation perspective. The Bills likely need to provide a Day 2 pick as a starting point, so it really boils down to the long-term plan.

Elam appears to be a sunk cost and likely no longer figures significantly into the situation. It wouldn’t be a surprise for him to get put into a trade to help push the deal, or any deal, across the line. It isn’t a long-term question about Elam but rather about White, who enters his age-29 season in 2024 coming off his second major injury in three years. A torn Achilles, generally speaking, is usually close to a year of rehab, which would put him right at the beginning of next year. And for players relying on speed and explosiveness with that injury as cornerbacks do, there’s always the concern of regaining the same playing level. The Bills also have a potential out, able to save over $6 million on next year’s salary cap — and over $10 million if they designate it as a post-June 1 release. There is an emotional connection from the franchise to White as the first draft pick of the Sean McDermott era, but the cold business and football logic could argue to move on.

If the Bills traded for the 24-year-old Johnson, they’d need to have one of two strategies in mind. They could sign him to a long-term deal to be their top corner to make it worth the cost of the draft pick, knowing they’re likely to get a third-round pick back in 2024 due to the compensatory formula. Or, they could get him as a rental player in 2023, maintain his rights heading into the offseason of his free agency and potentially recoup a high-level compensatory pick for him in 2025. There’s no denying the fit. It all depends on the Bills’ long-term plan at cornerback.

He's a perfect fit for the Bills.

Packers trade Rasul Douglas to Bills (https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/packers-trade-rasul-douglas-to-bills)

The Packers have traded Douglas to the Bills just before the NFL trade deadline, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
The 28-year-old Douglas originally entered the NFL as a 2017 third-round pick of the Eagles and has also spent time with the Panthers, Raiders, Texans and Cardinals before joining the Packers. Douglas has started all seven games this season.
For the Packers, it’s another reminder that this is a rebuilding season in Green Bay: They’re not going anywhere this year, and they’d rather acquire a draft pick than keep a veteran.

Commanders trade Chase Young to 49ers (https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/commanders-trade-chase-young-to-49ers)

There’s a Ohio State Buckeyes reunion coming to the Bay Area.
The 49ers have traded for defensive end Chase Young, according to multiple reports.
San Francisco will send Washington a third-round pick to complete the trade.
Young, the No. 2 overall pick of the 2020 draft, has recorded 5.0 sacks, six tackles for loss, and nine quarterback hits in seven games for the Commanders this year. He played only 12 games in the past two seasons due to a knee injury, but has been healthy in 2023.

For an under-performing D-lineman???? No freakin' way. Williams is NOT worth a second round pick, much less a second AND a fifth round pick.

There are reports that Beane started looking for a CB since week 4 after Tre' went down. The Bills' director of player personnel, Terrance Grey contacted the Packers sometime after week 4. At first they said they were not letting him go because of his importance to the team.

Beane then got directly involved the week before the deadline, kept at it and (obviously) eventually came up with a deal.

The point is that Douglas was highly regarded by the Packers organization. But, in the end, the NFL is a business.

Beane was looking .......... I read the same thing.

I just wish they could open the trade deadline for a few more weeks.

Maybe Elam in the case of the Bills could be moved and I'm sure there are other teams in the same situation ...... so that would be fair for everybody

So many teams teams with records that don't allow them to move right now.

Players can find a team they might be able to make a difference on.

I'll give just one example Devante Adams and I'm sure there's plenty more.

I do not agree with "moving Elam". It's, way, way too early to give up on him.

Apparently the Bills think exactly the same when Brandon Beane was asked (https://buffalonews.com/sports/professional/nfl/bills/brandon-beane-says-hes-not-giving-up-on-kaiir-elam-but-cb-could-land-on/article_ab19beae-78fb-11ee-aaae-5f2318c673d5.html) "if he ever considered trading the 2022 first-round draft pick in the weeks leading up to Tuesday's NFL trade deadline, Beane said:"

"No. No. No. Zero."

Once again the prevalent opinions from many living-room-couch GM's here is 100% opposite of reality.

We can at least for now afford to be a little more patient ..... what could they do to get his confidence/swag back .... right now he's not that guy ..... at that position you gotta have that mentality almost before anything else. They drafted him so they must have seen that. CB the position requires a forget the play if you made a mistake and move on. Very hard to do as a rule but you gotta have it more determined to get the next rep right.

Shoulda traded Elam when he had a little bit of value.

He's going to have none and will end up not getting his extension and just walking away for nothing.

He doesn't fit the defense. When he was asked to just be a man cover, what he was good at in college, and the rest of the defense did their thing around him...he still was terrible.

In fact, if Tre doesn't reach an injury settlement, I wouldn't be surprised if Elam doesn't make the roster next year.

We'd have White, Douglas, Benford, Johnson...that's if we make no moves in FA or draft at the position...we're gonna keep Elam around as the 5th corner?

What a lame troll post.

There was never, ever any speculation that the Bills ever considered trading Edmunds. Certainly not in his second year. He was an obvious spectacular LB in his second year, named to the Pro Bowl which increased his fifth year option money.

He was made the highest paid off-ball LB in the NFL as soon as he became a free agent (in fact, the announcement of the signing was done TWO DAYS (https://www.nfl.com/news/bears-signing-ex-bills-lb-tremaine-edmunds-to-four-year-72-million-deal) before FA officially started), and the Bills just could not justify having two LB's on the roster within the top 10 AVG/Y position. I posted extensive research and laid out the facts (http://www.billszone.com/fanzone/showthread.php/263081-Name-one-starter-on-our-team-that-if-we-lost?p=5020920&viewfull=1#post5020920). The upshot is this realty....

"That is why the 14 positions that have multiple players on each team (excluding single player positions....LS, FB, K & P) for 32 teams (448 instances) only FOUR teams have two players within the top 10 AVG/Y salary for the same position...

Miami - CB - #3 & #6
Baltimore - CB - #4 & #10
LAC - EDGE - #2 & #5
Wash - DL - #3 & #8."

The FACT (https://overthecap.com/position/linebacker) is that both Edmunds and Milano are within the top 10 AVG/Y paid LB's.

Besides the FACT that Beane never EVER said that there was no chance that Edmunds would get a offer too good for the Bills to match considering their cap situation. Instead, he said that all the time that it would be difficult to retain such a star LB.

There is literally zero comparison. What fantasy world are you living in???? You obviously are either oblivious to the plain facts or just refuse to comprehend them. Either way, your post is pretty dumb.

Really?!?!?

What a lame idea from another living-room-couch GM.

Just like your other very lame WAY-too-soon-to-pull-the-trigger proclamation that Dalton Kincaid is a "wasted pick" (http://www.billszone.com/fanzone/showthread.php/264042-Is-Buffalo-properly-utilizing-TE-Dalton-Kincaid?p=5050590&viewfull=1#post5050590)?!?!?!?
