Taron Johnson the Bills' most indispensable defender

ORCHARD PARK — As first-half clock ticked down, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott threw a short pass to running back Rico Dowdle.

    Whack.

The ball barely touched Dowdle’s hands before Buffalo Bills cornerback Taron Johnson delivered a stiff hit to stop him where he stood. A few plays later, Johnson was dropping deep along the hash marks like a safety and eventually, shooting into a scrum of players to make a tackle on a run.

No player on the Bills defense is tasked with more responsibilities than Johnson, who at 5-feet-11, 192 pounds, bakes cornerback, linebacker and safety duties all into one position. It took some time for Johnson to master his unique position, but he has since become the lynchpin of the Buffalo defense.

I have felt like Taron has had a pretty bad season overall. His coverage has been pretty bad, and he’s been flagged or SHOULD have been flagged a lot of times.

He's had an up and down season. He got exposed for a multitude of games, then has played really well the last few, especially in run support

He’s the quintessential “jack of all trades, master of none”. I like him though, he’s not perfect but he’s like an old school enforcer.

I would say his run support and blitzing has never really been the issue. He really seems to play more like a Safety.

I agree. I wonder if he could move to Strong Safety next year. I doubt they want to move him out of the nickel slot, but they have a ton of corners, and not many safeties. He seems like the perfect candidate to move to Poyer's role.

I think if any corner moves to safety it's going to be Tre'. Maybe they should try Elam there too.

I'd say Christian Benford is the best fit for safety.

We definitely need to look at drafting a DB in the 1st. I hate the idea of drafting for need but a lot of good DBs are found in the bottom half.

                  T. Johnson to me is what he is and I doubt he’ll ever be more, even in another position. Let him stay in the slot.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

There are good safeties all up and down this draft.

                      Get two.

yep, he was a huge part of the struggles the defense had in the middle of the year.

but he's looked a lot better since then.

If I had a choice of whom I would not want to be injured, it would be Terrel Bernard.
