Has anyone heard about the game possibly being moved to Cleveland because of the weather??

Is this complete BS?

Goodluck if the band crushes that area with 60 MPH winds, there won’t be a game to be seen & even entering the field will be challenging. Blizzard of 85’ had a similar Saturday start.

<tbody style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">
Blizzard of 1985

On January 18, 1985, Buffalo was hit by the “Six Pack Blizzard.” The storm dropped 33.2 inches of snow with winds gusting to 53 mph. It was during this storm that Mayor Jimmy Griffin told Buffalonians to “Stay inside, grab a six-pack and watch a good football game.” This by far is one of the best lines EVER voiced by a political leader. The storm dropped 33.2 inches with winds gusting to 53 mph.

That’s it? Down here that would shut the city down but it’s routine for WNY. There’s no way they’d move a game for that. Hell, Bills and Steelers in the playoffs in the snow? The NFL couldn’t script it better than that.

I understand Lecter is making enough chilli for the tailgate in Hammer’s Lot that once digested among half a dozen of his fellow tailgaters that their flatulence will have a leaf blower effect in clearing all snow from the stadium seats.

The only question is will there be enough snow or will some of those toxic ass winds not be chinooked by snow but rather form a dangerous chemical cloud over the City of Buffalo like the good old days.

cas22
01-12-2024, 10:01 AM
i think the wind will be the biggest effect on both teams, the weather helps Pitt and hurts the Bills more, Allens ability to throw intermediate routes will be affected.. but Buffalo doesn't need a Dome, the worst area for weather effecting games, they have had games moved because of weather yet no dome, there are no advantage's in 30 mile a hour wind games. they should have never put the stadium on the east side of the lake to begin with, lackawanna was there 1st choice.

As a kid I absolutely loved to be outside in all kinds of weather and I loved to see NFL games in snowy weather. Kind of a gladiator kind of thrill. Now I'm older and wussier and it all seems to kind of suck and I'm happy to be sitting indoors.

I agree the wind is the biggest factor and it favors them because we have the better passing game. Josh has a cannon but we all remember the wind game against NE. Wind sucks for throwing a football accurately.

On it's face, it isn't, but the forecast is for lake effect down on the Southern Tier.

They have been saying all week, that Buffalo and the suburbs should only see 2-5, depending on where you live.

But they've also been saying that if the wind is just right, a band could possibly drift north enough to dump on Hamburg and Orchard Park.

So we'll see.

I remember going to a December game over 10 years ago where the winds were so strong, I was barely able to walk to the stadium from where I parked my car on California. Fortunately, I was in a paved lot because there were numerous reports of damaged vehicles where loose gravel got picked up by the wind and damaged fans' cars.

Booker Edgerson stole a handoff and took it to the house.

Had to be less than 3-5,000 fans left by halftime.

Of course I was one of them.

Blinding snowstorm nothing ever close to that game.

They just cancelled my son's hockey game in Jamestown tonight, as well as two fed games this weekend, Saturday and Sunday night in Cheektowaga. (LOL, we were already up to the Hamburg exit when the text came over)

They are now talking 20 inches of Lake effect tomorrow, (bullseye on Buffalo and suburbs) beginning at about 9 am. About an inch an hour.

So far, they think they will have things cleaned up for the game, but they said they're being flexible.

It may get moved to Monday night, thereby giving us one less day to prepare for Kansas City.

Downtown stadiums have their issues too but I 100% agree on the dome. I used to be one of those old skool “football should be played in the elements” types but not anymore. This isn’t the 90’s. Most of the players are from the South and with FA and the cap, most guys don’t stay in Buffalo long enough to get used to it. The weather isn’t an advantage anymore.

Even worse, it’s become a pass happy league. We have our QB, and Josh won’t be here forever, but if we don’t find another one after him, we won’t be successful. The future is the passing game and making our guys attempt to throw into 60 mph winds in the playoffs negates home field advantage.

Pegula and the state should have found the money for a dome. You’re a fellow WNY ex-pat. I’m sure this is the same for you: every time I tell someone where I’m from, the first thing they bring up is the weather. We’re famous for our **** weather. It just makes no sense that we aren’t getting a dome.

Buffalo and the suburbs aren't used to it. Up there it's "Snowvember" and "October Surprise" and "State of emergency". The Southern Tier is where it's "Tuesday" or "The weekend". And even by ST standards, the combination of wind/cold/snow is an event worthy of caution.

You are right .... but after so many years I've learned to never look ahead.

The only game that matters is this game.

Can't control anything beyond .... so I won't worry or root for anybody else to make it through in the AFC in particular.

Yes I do believe KC takes care of business, but if they don’t the point is still moot. Whoever the next opponent is will have 2 extra days of prep. That doesn’t mean we can’t win, but it’s still a ****ty hand to get dealt when this team has already been playing playoff games since the start of December.

It sure looks like the really bad weather helps OTHER TEAMS and not the Bills. In (now) Monday's game the worse the weather the more it helps the Steelers.

I'll put the dome discussion aside, although there is little doubt a dome would help the Bills during playoff time.

Dome or not, putting a new stadium in the middle of the ****ing snow belt is beyond idiocy.

If the Bills stadium was nearer the city (and NOT in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the snow belt...and a new stadium should ave been built 20 ****ing years ago!!!) this game would not have been postponed.

The worst place to be this weekend is in ****ING ORCHARD PARK!!!! Compare the weather report for the city of Buffalo to OP....

Orchard Park hourly for Sunday (https://www.wunderground.com/hourly/us/ny/orchard-park/42.78,-78.75/date/2024-01-14)

Snow expected every single hour....from .2 inch to .70 inch.

Buffalo hourly for Sunday (https://www.wunderground.com/hourly/us/ny/buffalo/42.89,-78.88/date/2024-01-14)

NO snow expected from 2:00PM through the rest of the day.

There are years and years of history that when the most important weeks and months of the NFL season....late in the regular season and during the playoff....it's when the WORST and MOST snow is expected right smack dab where the stadium is, while the closer one gets to the city (and further away from Orchard Park), the less harsh it is.

Yet....to supposedly save a relative few bucks, they (meaning Bills ownership, Erie County and New York State governments) make the WORST DECISION POSSIBLE!!!

What makes this even MORE infuriating, is that the same boneheaded, short sighted, cheapskate decisions have been going on for DECADES in WNY, when other similar areas (in particular Pittsburgh) have done the OPPOSITE and has paid off exponentially positively for the city, and especially their downtown area.

Not one but TWO BEAUTIFUL STADIUMS right smack in the heart of the city....

This kind of loser mindset is the reason why I fled Buffalo when the first opportunity to do so, and have never regretting leaveing and will never, EVER go back and never even considered going back after my wife and I left 34 years ago.

you can blame Pegula for us not having a dome, the state should have demanded a dome, it would generate more money for the state and county with one vs none, the state would have agreed to one i'm 100% sure of it but it was gonna cost Pegula around 800 mil more on his end.. he really doesn't care about winning just look at the Sabres, as long as the is making money thats what its all about,,

Buffalo is by far the worst weather city in the NFL, even the NFL could have chimed in.

The Bills stupidly insisted on building a new, undomed stadium in the middle of nowhere that is also in the middle of the snowbelt.

What idiocy

Absolutely agree with Nota on this shortsighted decision, for all the reasons OP mentioned.

Unfortunately, having the game in an outdoor stadium isn't the reason for the postponement this time.

The reason is, the height of the storm shifted from Saturday to Sunday, making road access impossible.

They simply could not clear the roads sufficiently while it's coming down at a rate of two plus inches an hour.

As for the other topic, I cannot believe for the life of me, that a dome was not even considered for the new stadium.

OP is right, this is a pass happy league, and with our winds, you don't get to see the best of the best performing at peak level.

The problem for me though, is that these mega-storms are getting more frequent, and more intense.

We live at the Eastern end of Lake Erie.

In the summer it acts as an air conditioner.

In the winter, it acts as a snow-cone machine.

Games are being shifted to other cities, and stadiums with friggin domes!!!

How can anyone ignore that?

I don't give a damn what it costs....put a ****ing roof on it!

Practice Safe Football and call the covered stadium “The Con-Dome”.

Maybe Converse or The Conservatives for Christ will pay enough for the naming right to pay for the roof otherwise Mexico saved some pesos from not paying for Trump’s Wall and maybe they will kick in.

Capacity is a problem I totally agree .... but it's an even bigger advantage with the noise that can be produced. I'd work really hard to have the Carrier Dome as our go to when needed. But what do I know? :boost::fogey:

I'm with Historian, Nota and Opi, and probably almost ever Bills fan. I have no idea why they didn't build a dome. Yes it would've cost more, but it also would've been able to be used all year long, for things like, I don't know, NCAA final four, concerts, etc.

At least the new stadium will have grass.

What is extremely interesting is that there are only TEN NFL cites that have a dome (https://www.nbcsportsphiladelphia.com/nfl/philadelphia-eagles/these-are-the-10-nfl-stadiums-with-domes-retractable-roofs/258550/).
