View Full Version : Kaiir Elam today

When he came in for Benford, The Steelers went after him. He had a bad tackle, an obvious hold on Johnson, then boom he got an redzone INT on a not well thrown ball.

Guess what, after that, the Steelers were targeting Jackson and middle. This should be a little confidence booster for the young man. The Bills need him, right now in the playoffs, the kind of in-game growth.

He should had another INT later in the game.

After today, there is no more Rudolph kind of QBs. So I expect Elam will get beat by better throws. What I want to see is that he makes some of INTs by his athletic ability to offset. I know it is not the kind of steady play McDermott is looking for in his CBs, but as long as he can make some splash plays, we might be OK there.

The light bulb for Elam better turn on right now. Playing like a third-stringer isn't going to cut it.

I don’t disagree with anything you say, but we don’t really have a choice. Every better option is injured.

I know he's been a disappointment so far as a first round pick, but with Tre White being out for the year, Douglas being hurt for this game, and Bendford going out early, we could certainly do worse as far as depth CBs. That INT in the redzone after a couple bad plays was huge.

And FWIW I don’t really blame him for the bad tackle. Yeah, it was bad, but he was trying to tackle a much bigger p,Ayer who had a full head of steam. It’s really hard to make a good tackle in that situation.

Good question. Hopefully Benford and Douglas are good to go next week so we don't have to find out.

Well he tried to tackle him high like a dumbass. That’s not how they’re taught even in peewee.

The pick was a huge play. Rudolph made a bad throw.

Elam wasn’t great overall, but Lewis was far worse. We need healthy CBs badly.

Elam needs to understand that he's going to get beat. It happens. Corners are set up to fail from the snap. Forget the last play and focus on the next.

I think he's going to come up big vs KC

Hopefully Elam turns the corner like Epenesa did.

That said, Rasul Douglas will be back, and hoping Benford will be available too. Elam will be good depth, but in a game like this, would prefer to rely on those two.
Also hoping Rapp is healthy enough to play given our issues at LB now... might need him to be in the box more often than not.

I think there is something about Elam that the Beane and McDermott are not willing to give up yet. To me that is his athleticism and super fast reaction. The guy used to play man so he reads his man instead of QB/surroundings as in the case of zone. In short area of the endzone, you see his skills in play - the QB has to make a perfect throw. I remember he had an INT on Mahomes in the endzone last year, a scramble play. The Bills have not had such an athletic CB since ... Gilmore? Remember the Arizona Hail Mary play where White/Hyde/Poyer cannot out jump Hopkins? I think when it comes down to the Elam pick, those things must have run thru Beane and McDermott's minds.

But so far Elam has shown he is slow to grasp what the offense is doing. Can he get to the speed how quickly Benford dissecting a play, or may I say, Levi Wallace mental level? We shall see.

If yesterday's win proved anything is that the Bills depth is STRONG, as is the coaching.

Not many teams could win a playoff game with having to play a 4th string LB who was sitting on the couch last week, and were also down to their last 3 healthy corners.

Some Steelers fans were not that impressed with the Bills D. I told them imaging you have your top 3 CBs and top 3 LBs not playing, with the best defensive player among those 6 not playing.

Yeah, I just can't believe how well this unit has been playing over the stretch. Dont want to jinx it obviously, but a testament to McD.

Not to rag on the guy, but I dont get why the Raiders even interviewed Fraizer
