Bill Belichick might get shut out in the current hiring cycle

    The Bill stands alone. Possibly.

Only one team had interviewed legendary head coach Bill Belichick since he became available to be hired by any other NFL franchise, two weeks ago today. And now the Falcons, who interviewed Belichick twice, have opted to hire former Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris.

Now, with two vacancies left and Belichick to date not interviewed by the Seahawks and Commanders, he could be out of luck for 2024.

It’s an amazing development, if that’s how it goes. There’s still a chance (slim, but a chance) that another job will pop open. Even if that happens, the team would have to want Belichick.

Re: Bill Belichick might get shut out in the current hiring cycle

There is no indication Belichick is in the running for the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders openings, NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo reported.

The Seahawks and Commanders stand as the last two openings in a hiring cycle that began with eight vacancies.

Belichick, who parted ways with the New England Patriots following 24 seasons to create one of those openings, interviewed twice with the Falcons, but has received no other interview requests.

No indication Bill Belichick is in running for two remaining head coaching openings

We should hire him as the DC. I don't think he could cut it with McDermott.

Maybe we can hire BB as the executive guy who manages the last two minutes of every game ...

                    Time and power.

BB is short on time: he'll be 72 soon. Realistically how many years? He went to the Pats at age 48.

And BB wants the entire football operation, like he had in Pats. That means, GM, scouts, coaches, training staff, etc. everything starting over. To that magnitude of change, it takes time, but BB is short on time. Hence the dilamma.

He's on the wrong side of 70. He's never been successful without Brady.

Teams that don't have a good QB shouldn't be considering him. Of course, teams that have good QB's usually win, which means they usually don't fire the head coach.

He way overplayed his hand. He was Arthur Blank's choice in ATL. But he asked for too much control and the people in charge in Atl fought back because they knew Bill = they're gone. Bill should have been content to just be the f'n coach and he'd have been hired. But 23 years in NE where he was in total control made him spoiled. Now he's old and he hasn't been winning. The bloom is off the rose. If he was smart he would have called Jerry Jones 2 weeks ago and said he'd take a big pay cut and no control of personnel and he'd have been the HC in Dallas. In 2 years he'd certainly have the wins record and maybe a Lombardi.

Now he's on the outside with his nose pressed against the glass looking in. F him.

                            As an NFL HC???...not really??

He (by all reports and common sense) demands total control. He has shown that he SUCKS at player personal decisions for the last 10 years.

He did not even consider Tom Brady a viable QB (THE reason he's such a "great coach"..without Brady he is no great shakes) or else he would have drafted him earlier and he thought he was washed up in 2013.

As I cited in another thread....

He lucked out with Brady....drafting FIVE players before him and not ONE of them became even a average starter.

The Pats have not signed any player drafted in the first three rounds to a second contract since 2013.

He literally wanted to get Brady OFF THE TEAM in 2013.

At 70+ years old, how long will he stick around to oversee (which he is ill equipped to do) rebuild a team with a young QB.

Best place for Bill (besides retiring to the TV booth) is an established team, with a ready to go roster. Dallas fits that bill. In the end, I don't give two ****s where he goes. He's on the cusp of becoming a has-been and could do great damage to his legacy.

I would love to see him fall flat on his face with the one team that deserves to fall flat on their faces over and over and over again.

Yeah...he WILL "land a job".....but the best place for him is in the TV booth.
