Diggs unsure of future in Buffalo

Though he finished the year with 107 catches for 1,183 yards, it still was Diggs' worst statistical season since coming to Buffalo in 2020, and he especially struggled down the stretch, failing to record a 100-plus yard game after Week 6 and averaging only 48.9 yards per game in his final 13 contests, including the postseason.

That culminated in the Bills' third
playoff loss to the Chiefs in the last four years, with Diggs' performance being defined by just 21 receiving yards and a crucial dropped catch late in the game that could have decided the game.

"Like I said, that's one of the plays I want back. I count that, if I touch it, I drop it. If I get one hand or a finger on it, I count it," Diggs said in an interview with NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe on Friday. "Just this season in its total, rolling with the punches, first eight games and the last eight games, or nine games, or ten games, however you dice it, it just was a different picture. And it's something I had to get adjusted to as a teammate, just rolling with the punches, being the best teammate you can be, best player you can be, and keep growing from it."

Re: Diggs unsure of future in Buffalo

Diggs signed a four-year, $96 million extension ahead of the 2022 season, and as he enters Year 3 of the deal, there has been speculation about whether his high-value contract could be up for restructuring or if there will be other measures taken in the Bills' endeavors to get out of the red.

What this means for Diggs' future in Buffalo is uncertain, and when asked about it Diggs didn't express complete confidence that the path forward has him wearing a Bills jersey.

"I don't know, I feel like you talk about with the money and all that type of stuff, I can't control none of that," he said. "I kinda just put my hat on and like I said it's a long offseason in front of me. As far as what the future holds, shoot, I don't have any surprises for you right now."

Diggs is right that it's a long offseason ahead, and he and Bills fans alike will have to wait and see how things play out in the wake of yet another frustrating season in Buffalo.

Year 3 of the total deal when he signed the extension. Year 1 of the extension. Don't get people excited that we are getting out of Diggs deal any time soon.

This is the area I hope Beane can improve. I really don't like the extension. BUT I do understand we are not the Chiefs who at the time they jettison Hill, they have one superbowl so the pressure is not there anymore. This could very well be another bad contract the Bills have to eat on top of Von's in a year.

They got rid of Hill so they could spend that $$$ on the defense. Looks like the offense took a little bit of a hit but the defense got a lot better.

Seemed more to me like he referenced the focus on cap and said it's not his biz, he just comes to work.

If anything I think he's annoyed with everyone speculating over and over.

He definitely doesn't want to be a part of controversy or any forms of distraction for the team. He might have some legitimate beefs though....

I like sportrac but how the **** is $22 million in dead cap for one player a potential out.

I’m not even really sure why this is a topic of discussion. Diggs will be back. No one will take his $27 mil cap hit and it’s $31 mil in dead cap if he’s cut. There’s just no way to move him.

Re: Diggs unsure of future in Buffalo

If there is going to be a change of address, it will likely come early in the offseason. Diggs’ $18.5 million salary becomes fully guaranteed a few days into the new league year in March, so it shouldn’t be too long until Diggs knows just where he’ll be come the start of next season.

I know how salary caps work. $22 million in dead cap means $22 million in money we can’t spend on other players. It might be less than his salary but it’s still 8% of the projected $282 mil cap for 2025. It’s only an “out” in the sense that it’s slightly less awful than paying $27 mil to a player who isn’t performing. It only saves $5 mil and we will still need to add a starting WR to replace him. Good luck finding a starting WR for under $5 mil a season.
