Jahmile Addae named new CBs coach with Buffalo Bills - Buffalo Rumblings (https://www.buffalorumblings.com/2024/2/7/24065440/jahmile-addae-named-new-cbs-coach-with-buffalo-bills)

The Buffalo Bills (https://www.buffalorumblings.com/) made several additions to their coaching staff (https://x.com/BuffaloBills/status/1755343176074686561?s=20) on Wednesday, February 7. On the defensive side of the ball, Jahmile Addae was hired as the team’s new cornerbacks coach. Addae’s new role with Buffalo marks his first NFL coaching opportunity.

Prior to joining the Bills, Addae most recently spent time in NCAA football with the Miami Hurricanes (https://www.stateoftheu.com/) as their secondary coach, and earlier with the Georgia Bulldogs (https://www.dawgsports.com/) as the team’s defensive backs coach.

As a player, Jahmile Addae was a four-year starter at cornerback for the West Virginia Mountaineers (https://www.smokingmusket.com/). After participating in the 2006 Senior Bowl (http://www.sbnation.com/senior-bowl) and then the NFL Scouting Combine that same year, Addae went undrafted — signing on as a free agent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (https://www.bucsnation.com/). His time in Florida came to an end in-season, at which point he finished the 2007 regular season with the Indianapolis Colts (https://www.stampedeblue.com/).

Wonder why John Butler left.

Just like the players whose fortune changes every year, the coaches are too.

When Frazier left last year, McDermott has long time underlings Washington and Butler looking to be the candidates. He even gave Butler the duty to call plays in the last pre-season game, giving people the sense that Butler maybe the next in-line.

So coming this off-season. Young Babich was interviewing left and right. So Washington left first; I suspect he knew he is way down the list here in Buffalo. Then McDermott had to make the Babich decision so he does not lose him, but the collateral damage is that Butler may feel his one-time assistant is now his boss, took over the position he's been waiting for.

Butler will land on his feet, he did a great job with the DBs this year.

This was a very sticky situation. Wish I had some insight into how it was handled with all these people just because I am curious.

Ya know, none of these guys are household names.

They're decent position coaches, but none have stood out as a guy that's going to push this team over the top.

Then you've got Spagnuolo who just won his 4th Super Bowl as a coordinator, yet nobody wants him.

Eric Bienemy can't buy a head coaching position.

I don't get it.

People are lining up to hire the Bills nobodys, yet guys with Super Bowl pedigrees are ignored?

You would think the Daboll debacle would be enough to shy teams away from our staff, lol.

Spagnuolo had his run as a HC. He got Rams job back 2009. In 3 years he had 1-15 and 2-14 finishes with changing OCs etc. I don't think he's HC material and he probably knows too.

At least McDermott is moving along with the changes in NFL and look for young minds and new ways, instead of the old guards like Washington and Butler.

Another factor as I said in another thread is that the Bills are going to do more man coverage and it seems Butler's track record in that area is not that desirable. McDermott seems to come out of his "almost exclusive zone" shell as we see this past season, just like most analysts have been saying. Against bad to good QBs, the Frazier/McDermott D works great. But against super star QBs like Mahomes/Burrows, it got picked apart in the soft zone underneath. We need more effective man coverage to shut everything down in some of the critical moments more often. Remember, the Bills are not competing in the playoff appearance space, it is more of "can we defend against those superstar QBs to a 50% success rate from a defensive standpoint."

In a way, I feel like we are following the Chiefs path. In the early days of Mahomes era, they were beating everyone but fighting Brady and the Pats was a different story, and they evolved their defense. The Bills are realizing the way the defense has been is NOT good enough.

Can Jahmile save Kaiir Elam's career? We'll see.

McDuffie looked better than Taron Johnson last night. Chiefs have been one upping the Bills since the 60s…
