Will get more detailed later, but wanted to throw our a few names I like as safety. I think the Bills desperately need to revamp that position and I'd move on from BOTH Poyer and Hyde (love them but it's time)

1. Tyler Nubin - Minn - He's just great in coverage and a real ballhawk. Covers TE with ease. Very possibly gone at 28.

2. Kamren Kinchens - Miami - Likely the #1 guy off the board and gone at 28. He's a big play machine, unfortunately it tends to be both ways. Int this play, burned the next by being over aggressive. But the talent is there.

3. Javon Bullard - Georgia - Very good in coverage, good tackler. Could be a bit more aggressive. projected late 2nd

4. Tykee Smith - Georgia - Bullard's running mate is also great in coverage and blitzes well too. projected round 3.

5. Jaylx Hunt - Texas Christian - Small school star who was great in coverage and added 8 sacks. projected round 4

That's the 5 I like best.

Just mho, Poyer is still too significant, they even used him at pseudo LB. I think they extend him a year with some freshener bonus.

Poyer numbers were down across the board (except tackles). 0 INTs, PDs, FF, sacks, TFL.

There’s a reason his market was dry last year. He’s lost a pretty big step.

it would be smart to move on.

Well, a good chunk of that though is that they also used him differently, dropping him down into an lb slot and using a nickel safety on occasion after Milano was hurt. I think more than anyone Poyer is critical to the defensive backfield, whether I like it or not, and they don't have anyone to replace his versatility at present.

Granted, the D could evolve, but I don't see McDermott going hell's bells and replacing both safeties at once. It's just not his nature.

Cutting him saves 5.75mil in cap space they need.

Theres no way they are giving him 7.7 mil when he’s nearly 33 and in steep decline.

Last years deal was meant to be a 2 year deal and a 2nd added for cap reasons and to mitigate his embarrassment after getting nothing close to what he expected.

Short of a pay cut by half, I expect he will be cut

Well, we'll see.

I personally expect them to extend him another year and convert salary to signing bonus, because his role is too critical, and I don't think he's in steep decline as opposed to general aging decline, mixed usage compared to how he was previously used. My own feelings are "whatever", at this point, and I base my expectation on how I've observed the Bills do things. Where Belichick would get rid of a guy a year too early, I believe the Bills will get rid of a guy a year too late.

Will be an interesting offseason.

I agree if he doesn't take an adjustment he's gone.

There's no market for him so I expect him to take less.

Or retire.

Will be an interesting offseason.

It sure as hell will be .... I like the Poyer of 4 years ago much better.

If he's asked to jump in the box ........ I just don't see him lasting the season it's a game that's become too fast and too physical for Jordan.

He'd be out no later than midseason if he's lucky jmo.

No idea how I slipped Jalyx Hunt in here, who is a LB/DE. Though I do like him a lot as a late pick. Lol

a lot of scouts feel DB Jaylin Simpson out of Auburn would be a great FS in a zone scheme. Lots of versatility to play Corner too.

in fact I really like his teammate Namehiah Pritchett at CB as well

I have this feeling that safety/lb hybrids are going to play a significant part of defenses going forward. I still think Poyer has some left. But I see him playing more hybrid going forward.

Interested in seeing what type of athlete at safety Beane goes for.

Kinchens just dropped out of at least the 1st with this combine.

Maybe he's more of a LB :idunno:

Nah. His reported strength is his ability to anticipate and be in the right place. He's a safety for sure but I doubt he goes higher than late 2nd now unless he has a really good pro day.

Also, where the hell is TCU safety, Bud Clark? He just dropped right off the face of the Earth. He was one of my sleepers.
