Steve McMichael, Devin Hester, Julius Peppers selected to Pro Football Hall of Fame

Steve McMichael, Devin Hester, Julius Peppers selected to Pro Football Hall of Fame - NBC Sports

Officially, the Pro Football Hall of Fame is still 12 hours away from announcing its Class of 2024. But the vote was taken weeks ago, and some of the selections are starting to be revealed.

Among the three names that will be announced tonight are former Bears Steve McMichael, Devin Hester and Julius Peppers, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

For McMichael, it’s a bittersweet moment, as he’s finally getting Hall of Fame recognition now that he’s 66 years old, suffering from ALS and too ill to fully participate in ceremonies honoring him either at the Super Bowl this week or in Canton this summer. McMichael played defensive tackle for the Bears from 1981 to 1993 and was a major contributor to the great Monsters of the Midway defense that won Super Bowl XX after the 1985 season. For Bears fans, this will feel long overdue.

The Tasker thing is upsetting. That team has been recognized. He was one of the best players on those teams. He would compete with anyone to be the best player on the field at any time.

Like seriously he was an amazing playmaker. And he is not getting in because he was a special teams player?

Add me to the list of fans who finds the Devin Hester selection disappointing.

Not because Hester is undeserving. He very much is.

But we often hear that Steve Tasker doesn't make the cut because special teams isn't considered 'sexy' enough for the HOF.

But that's clearly not the case.

If you're an electric kick returner/punt returner with a breathtaking highlight reel, you absolutely get the kind of HOF recognition you deserve.

But if you're someone like Tasker, who had a technical finesse in coverage unlike almost any other player in NFL history, it just doesn't garner the kind of recognition it deserves. If it's not flashy enough, it's treated as a non-accomplishment.

When you have the most TDs ever at your position as a skill player, that has to be an automatic first-ballot selection. Guys like Patrick Willis and Devin Hester getting in over him is insane.

Just a shame it took so long.

Steve "Mongo" McMichael will not be able to enjoy any of it.
