Franchise tag window opens Tuesday - NBC Sports (https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/franchise-tag-window-opens-tuesday)

As the conversation lingers regarding the Super Bowl, the first major development of the 2024 offseason comes in just one day.

On Tuesday, the two-week window for applying the franchise tag opens.

The franchise tag has become the most effective way for teams to resist unfettered free agency. It gives every team the ability to block one player from the open market, each and every year. That keeps the best players in the league from becoming unrestricted free agents and, in turn, holds down the top end of the market at nearly every position.

From time to time, we’ll hear arguments that the only thing that matters is the closing of the window, not the opening of it. That there’s no need to have a two-week period. There only needs to be one day.
That overlooks what’s coming next week in Indianapolis. Officially, the Scouting Combine. Unofficially, Tampering Central. Agents will meet with many teams. Agents will talk about their impending free agents. Teams will express interest in them. The foundation will be laid for the mad dash of the looming legal tampering period, which begins in only three weeks.

Chiefs have tons of cap room. They could isgn both and front load cap hits. I also think Chiefs sign Big Game Gabe.

I 100% expect the Dolphins to tag Wilkins, with the release of Howard and Ogbah.

And I loved X, but hes on the wrong side of 30 and he's been injured alot the past two years.

Far as I can tell Higgins is the only one so far.

Tee Higgins, WR, Cincinnati Bengals
The two sides were unable to reach a long-term extension before the start of last season, and the tag designation was always the likely outcome for the 2024 season, per a source familiar with the situation. Tagging Higgins allows Cincinnati to keep the core nucleus of quarterback Joe Burrow, wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase and Higgins together for at least one more season.Franchise tag salary: $21.816 million

No franchise tags for RB's !!!!

No franchise tags are coming for running backs this offseason, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. That means Josh Jacobs, Derrick Henry, Saquon Barkley, Tony Pollard and Austin Ekeler will all be free to shop themselves to the highest bidder.
The reality is those running backs aren’t going to find many high bidders. Even with a major increase in the NFL salary cap in 2024, teams just aren’t looking to spend a lot on the running back position. NFL teams have learned that expensive veteran running backs can be replaced with cheap young running backs without much loss of production.
