Four-Year Starter Could Be The Biggest Free Agent Value Of 2024

The free agent safety market was loaded with talent at the start of the league year, and while most of those players have found new NFL homes, Julian Blackmon appears to have gone overlooked. It’s hard to understand why this happened, as the 2020 third-round pick has been one of the more consistent players since entering the league. The Utah product immediately earned a starting job as a rookie and maintained that role into 2021 before tearing his Achilles.

This type of injury can be a kiss of death to some players, but Blackmon returned better than ever. From 2022 to 2023, the free agent established himself as one of the game’s better deep safeties, as Julian Blackmon possesses the range and instincts to play over the top and slow down the deep passing game.

Why not?

And why aren't the Colts re-upping him?

Spoke to one of my fantasy league guys. Said he liked Blackmon. Was great in coverage especially. Only issue was he tends to get injured a bit too often.

Could be an underrated signing on an affordable deal.

Did he make a negative comment about Buffalo?

They are rich at the position ..... that's what I heard on a Colts podcast anyway.

So they have a few contracts to deal with still and one source for saving is their defensive backfield.

This is the article I read:

Remember, Poyer and Hyde were not well known when we signed them either.

To be clear they would love to keep him ..... gotta be cap adjusting ..... everybody has these concerns apparently. The league needs to adjust this thing some way ........ QB's dollars count half :idunno:

Hyde was very well known when the Bills signed him. Poyer was not well known.

Last word on sports website heavily uses AI imho. when you read the articles you notice what's wrong.

I don't have an opinion on Blackmon, will be fine with it either way.

Colts sb nation seems to have wanted him back, injuries being the concern but he is a good safety when he's on the field....he has played in 29 games with 26 starts in two years since the Achilles.

Well I guess I can acquiesce. After all I doubt he would re rupture an Achilles so he’s already statistically more durable than our current DBs.

i still would rather see Mace pirouette in a tutu at Shea’s in his rendition of Goose Lake.

Oh geez, I lost that video... can't remember the name I was using at the time but it's still out there on YouTube. I was acclaimed as stunning for my performance, thanks for mentioning it. Most people forgot in a temporary gratification culture.

I saw it on a bootleg Betamax. Breathtaking. At 27:34 the tape is full of artifact… perhaps from all the freeze frame action. Dude you really could fill out the tights. You looked like you were shoplifting plumbing supplies

I mean “well known” as in he was stuck behind 2 starters at S on GB and was playing all over in DB roles.

In 2021 and 2022, Blackmon allowed a quarterback rating when targeted of at least 134.7 (https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/B/BlacJu01.htm). That is awful. He also missed at least 12.8 percent of his tackle attempts in his first three years. If the Bills decide to sign him, I hope they have a plan for his skill set. Plus he plays SS, as does Taylor Rapp.

I like how he plays against the run.

Nice Wikipedia look-up. If you had watched Packer games, I did. His was the only name ever called from the secondary. He was quite well known.

To Packers fans and hardcores. I knew who both of them were but I watch way too much football. I didn’t think Poyer was starting calibre and I had doubts about Hyde being particularly good.

My point is average fans and media weren’t paying much attention to him and he was not a “celebrated” Free Agent. Except for by you, of course.

lol

He wasn't well known at all.

A.) He played DB most of his time in GB, not safety

B.) He was a backup for the majority of his time there

C.) Stop making up stuff.

I didn't watch a lot of Packers games but when they started talking about him coming to Buffalo, I definitely recognized him as that DB from GB that was always everywhere.

He was well known enough.

Poyer, I knew nothing about.

As I recall, I was shoplifting plumbing supplies at the time. That dancing grace took some effort let me tell you.

From what I remember, I was excited about both.

Hyde was well known for being flexible and hadn't been placed in a permanent position, Poyer somewhat less being devalued because he was coming off a lacerated kidney or something....both were considered players still on their way to ceiling....those were glorious pickups....and it was a while ago now.
