RIP Mike. Lived to be 89, pretty nice run.
The kicking game is so so different now than it was in the 60's. Mike was an average kicker for his day, career 52%. One of the last of the straight-ahead kickers. By today's standards he probably couldn't make a high school team. Not knocking a dead guy, just saying kicking is entirely different now.
IMHO they should narrow the goal posts from 18 1/2' to 15'. The guys today would STILL be better than the kickers of the 60's. It would add a lot more excitement to the game and cause teams to hesitate before lining up for 60 yarders (60 is the new 50 compared to 50+ years ago).Comment
