Did Buffalo Bills stiff-arm Patriots’ attempt at landing Keon Coleman in Round 1 of NFL Draft? - newyorkupstate.com (https://www.newyorkupstate.com/buffalo-bills/2024/04/did-buffalo-bills-stiff-arm-patriots-attempt-at-landing-keon-coleman-in-round-1-of-nfl-draft.html)

After making a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs, the Buffalo Bills (https://www.syracuse.com/buffalo-bills/) had multiple suitors calling them about the final pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Buffalo ultimately traded the pick along with No. 200 to the Carolina Panthers for pick No. 33 and pick 141. Another team who came calling for the final pick of the first round? Buffalo’s division rival, the New England Patriots.

New England was attempting to trade up for a wide receiver of their own and ESPN’s Mike Reiss believes that Keon Coleman may have been the target. Here is what Reiss wrote on ESPN (https://go.skimresources.com/?id=126006X1587360&xs=1&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.espn.com%2Fnfl%2Fstory%2F_%2Fid%2F40039753%2Fpatriots-qb-drake-maye-leadership-mack-brown-nfl-draft-unc&xcust=xid:fr1714406884035jad).

Beane didn't want Coleman at 28.

Either Beane got lucky that he eventually got his guy or he didn't think Coleman stood out amongst other potential picks.

What were the choices after 28?

What were the needs of those teams 29,30,31.

At 32 we knew the answer was Worthy ..... funny nobody else before 32 wanted him.

KC must have known that nobody needed a WR at 29-31 so I guess we knew the same thing.

NE couldn't have traded up another spot?

Like drafting a QB...if your guy is there, take him. Even if it's a reach.

So either Coleman wasn't really the guy and Beane would have been happy with a few players, or Coleman was the guy and Beane farted around.

It goes to show Beane isn't great at drafting WRs.

So I don't give him much credit for "stiff arming" the Patriots.

They must have known what KC and Buffalo knew ..... that nobody was going WR after Worthy went at 28 .... they all have the same information apparently and grade similarly I guess.

The cheap ass Pats might have thought why pay #29 #30 or #31 compensation.

The Pats traded out immediately after it was announced that Coleman was our choice at 33.
So I do believe that's who they wanted as well.
They just hoped that we didn't and that's why they tried to trade.
Who know's their offer might have been better than the Panthers.

Panthers held #33

Patriots held #34

WE WANTED COLEMAN.

Cheap ass Pats? Didn't we save a few, short-term bucks by not wanting Coleman in the 1st round, as well?

Who knows? All that matters now is how they play in the NFL.
