What's the deal with the holding call...

on the punt that gave the Bills a first down? I don't understand why a 5 yard penalty was an automatic first. Does anyone know a rule or something?

I believe that all defensive holding calls are automatic first downs and before the ball is actually kicked, any punting play is treated just like a normal offensive play in the eyes of the rulebook.

Defensive holding is always -5 yards and an automatic first for the offensive team.

the way is was explained on the postgame show, was that the d-lineman pulled a o-lineman out so they could get a clean shot at moorman.
